Totally shocking, it's as if gender really has nothing to do with the human condition when it comes to violence. It's...like...wow...yeah...people are trash, not just men.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, it's amazing we've been struggling to make this point across for years.

[–]Rethgil 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well according to other posts in the forum today that cite studies, some from Harvard-actually it appears that the post is NOT correct at all, and that female teenagers are particularly more violent towards boys.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic, but people are not trash. People are the most complex known system in the universe and perhaps the only intelligence there is. People are, must be regarded as, more valuable than anything else.

[–]throwoahwey 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most people throughout history were very disposable and I’d say there are even more now that we have technology.

[–]Laika_5 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There's more gold in a pile of trash than in a ton of gold ore

[–]slotpop 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes but one man's trash is another man's treasure

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They were making a point that everyone, regardless of race, color, or gender has the capacity for cruelty and violence. It's just sad that this has to be screamed from a megaphone while one gender is made to be the monster and the other a victim.

[+]TheImpossible1 -14 points-13 points-12 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nope, just women and those raised by single mothers.

[–]slotpop 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's just incorrect, and careless to say.

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So you are anti-women then. That's nice. How about you stop making all of us look bad buddy.

[–]TheImpossible1 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No let's just let them beat up little boys because we're too unwilling to say anything.

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How is that similar to thinking "just women" are trash?

[–]Evildl17 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Looking at the mainstream cross post of this, I would say its fairly encouraging that the way this is getting viewed as now is significantly less gendered. It seems this is one fight we are starting to win. If only we could get more shelters...

β€œIt could be that it’s still socially acceptable for girls to hit or slap boys in dating relationships.”

BINGO!

[–]mlittman 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The normies stick their fingers in the ears and say nah nah nah nah nah this can't be true this can't be true this must be fake news meanwhile if their daughter slapped a boy they would not care

[–]mlittman 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And don't forget the biggest violence that women bring against men is their horrendous emotional abuse and the malicious mind control that they weild against the men in their life.

[–]UsernameIWontRegret 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reading β€œThe Manipulated Man” totally changed my life. I forgot the authors name but she made clear the emotional manipulation men face in a such a way that I never could.

Obviously "not all" but It's definitely common. I had a room mate and his best friend both were being tracked via an app on their phones both of their girlfriends (also friends) had put on them. They would constantly be checking their Facebook profile and really over the line levels of intrusion.

Things that if a woman told anyone about would be immediate red flags.

They would constantly be in a fight over one thing or another. Generally over nothing as far as I could tell, and often performative in order to then be showered with gifts as an apology.

I talked with my room mate a couple of times and he even admitted that he behaviour was unacceptable but always make an excuse as to why he stayed.

The findings surprise even me, as boys have to, by any logic, be less prone to reporting light violence than girls. Even if you ask specific questions, boys are much more likely to downplay or even forget a slap or a shove.

To some extent, of course, this is because it is probably more threatening for a girl to be slapped by someone much stronger than the other way around. Not only because of physical strength, but because a boy who does so must first lose a range of societal inhibitions, whereas girls, who have never been taught not to hit a boy, might do it to express much lighter levels of frustration.

The problem is, we are not talking openly, let alone researching well, any of those two aspects - nor the interrelations between them (such as if and how light violence by girls might prompt boys to lose those inhibitions and even respond with severe violence). Nor are we talking about psychological violence, which, I think, girls exercise more than boys - but then again, I am much more interested in finding out more than about finding ways to confirm my prejudices.

That feminism, or the progressive left more broadly, focuses on girls as victims is one thing. The thornier issue, I think, is that the rest of society, including the right, enables this one-sidedness. Sure, it might slam feminism when it goes to far, but that strikes me as more motivated by an instinct to stick it to the left than deep concern for abused boys. The same people might then turn around and call male victims of statutory rape lucky, as did, say, Bill Maher, one of the strongest critics of extreme feminism on the centre-left.

This is where I, as an MRA sympathiser, feel the most alone. Slamming quotas or the extremes of metoo is no problem - most people agree. But seeing gender-based victimhood in men and boys seems to rub everyone the wrong way.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Shouldn't be a surprise. This was a finding in the 2014 StatCan Family Violence Report for Canada as well. 418,000 men self-reported being the victims of domestic violence between 2009-2014, while 342,000 women self-reported being domestic violence victims over the same time period. That's 55% male victims and 45% female victims. However, police-reported spousal violence in 2009 was 83% female victims in Canada. Funny, isn't it, and no one cares.

[–]svenskbitch 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess you are right. For some reason I was thinking of dating and domestic violence as different, but then I realised they are hard to distinguish.

And it is important to underscore that NOONE cares. Feminists certainly mostly ignore the issue, and downplay it when they address it, but that is what lobby groups do. The problem is that even, or perhaps especially, those I know who distance themselves from or even ridicule feminism, do so even more from the mere notion that DV against men is a serious concern, let alone one that is anywhere close to rival the plight of women.

The few times I have raised this issue, even while being careful to moderate how I present it and limiting myself to saying that perhaps we need to look into this for the sake of both men and women to understand the dynamics of violence in the home, people have laughed at me or dismissed me as a radical. And when I tried to follow up with those 250 plus links, all I got was silence or further dismissal.

It is deep-seated, based on instincts from the 99% of human existence where the male disposability and need for protecting and providing for women to allow them to bear an average of five children was not something nice to do, but essential for the tribe to survive at all - and both culture and biology change at a glacial pace. And the few cases where this has gotten attention and approval from the media strike me as the exceptions that prove the rule.

UBC, this is not a surprising finding.

StatCan Family Violence in Canada Report, 2014 says, on page 3:

In 2014, equal proportions of men and women reported being victims of spousal violence during the preceding 5 years (4%, respectively). This translated into about 342,000 women and 418,000 men across the pro vinces. Similar declines in spousal violence were recorded for both sexes since 2004.

This is actually not "equal proportions," as stated by this report. 55% of self-reported domestic violence victims in Canada in 2014 were men, not women. This has been known by the Canadian federal government and anyone with access to this report for a minimum of 2 years, but that doesn't stop things like this:

Ontario Ministry of Children, Community, Social Services (with the surprising URL of women.gov.on.ca):

The majority of spousal violence victims are women, representing 83% of all victims (2007).

Women are almost four times more likely than men to be victims of spousal violence (2011).

What utter bullshit. Please note that the two latter facts are for police-reported spousal violence, not self-reported. The stigma of women not being physically abusive to men greatly affects police perception, it seems.

[–]lrish_Chick 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So is it safe to say that your statistics show that men are less likely to report DV to the police?

Why do you think this is?

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Toxic femininity. Women need to be taught that they don't have a right to do whatever they want to men.

So we're assuming they all reported accurately? Whole groups may not be comfortable reporting. We can't just accept this at face value. One group might not report as often or easily as the other. We already know under-reporting occurs in a lot of victim related things.
