Unpopular opinion time.

I think it's a given that appearance and, ultimately, sexuality is a form of power that most women in our society pursue. The question is why. The answer that they do it for themselves is both accurate and bullshit, depending on how you look at it; they obviously aren't paying attention to their appearance for their own sake of appearance. That doesn't make any sense. What they are doing is attempting to increase their status, either with men or within their female social group ( be it work, church, home, ect... ).

These two concepts are only tangentially linked; while sexual power is at the root of both, the female hierarchy is far more demanding than male attention, in the same way that we are our own harshest judges. I'm guessing it's instinctive; women feel the need to be at the top of their hierarchy so they get first pick at the best men.

Make up falls squarely into this paradigm. As to why some women react poorly to having this pointed out; society is schizophrenic. On the one hand, being yourself is the most beautiful you can be. On the other; buy all these beauty products. On one hand; you don't need anyone to make you happy. On the other; we're pack animals.

The end result is this dynamic where we're told that we need no external validation for who we are, yet as social creatures we crave external validation for our choices and accomplishments.

Now mix in the whole "objectifying" nonsense, which adds yet another layer of crazy to the equation. Everyone wants to feel objectified sometimes. We all want to feel that desire from someone we, in turn, desire, and under specific conditions. In the board room? No. In the bedroom? Absolutely. Yet again, feminists come around and take a natural behavior and vilify it, resulting in the blanket "NO OBJECTIFYING EVER" crap further damaging our ability to relate to others.

Anyway. Those are my observations. I'm open to being wrong.

With women (and most people in general) watch what they DO and not what they SAY. Ultimately, it's not what they say that matters. It is always what they DO that matters. Accept that the surface words to a woman mean very little. Also accept that the intent behind the words (the action), is everything.

"I wear makeup for me, not for anyone else."

This is probaby objectively true. She wears makeup to attact more men, which in turn makes her feel better about herself (validation).

"I hate it when men always objectify me."

Taken at face value, this would seem in conflict with the above. However, it's because of the very fact that she wants to attract more men, that she says this. She doesn't want to be perceived as a shallow slut for wanting to attract more men. It's not objectively true, as she does want men to desire her physical attractiveness. It's the PURPOSE of the statement that matters, and that's protecting her reputation as a "good woman". Does the statement do that? Absolutely.

Women do wear makeup for themselves. They wear makeup so they can get validation from men that they are beautiful, ultimately it's for their own gratification and not to please men. They're still fucked in the head for complaining when men look though as that is what they were going for. I suppose it would have to be the right men looking though.

The way I've heard it is that women dress for themselves. That may be true, but in an indirect fashion, they are in competition with other women, so they don't want to look worse.

That is, when you go out with your GF, she's probably not dressing for you.

And anyone who's ever heard women complain about heels, their dresses, makeup, everything would probably get the idea that many (most?) women don't feel comfortable in women's dress clothes.

I totally am with you man. It makes no sense and is complete bullshit. If they are literally wearing it for themselves then they are saying they get pleasure from the feeling of dust on their face or something (which obviously isn't the case.) They can't admit it is to make themselves look better to others, whoever the others may be. Drives me nuts, I've heard it time and time again with girlfriends.

Bro make up is just part of the capitalist patriarchy just tryna get you to buy bits of lipstick that they would otherwise be jamming in bunny eyes. Try mansplaining that to the other middle schoolers that I'm sure you're hitting on, it'll make their heads spin so fast that they'll turn flat just like the earth.
