The imagur post comments are interesting, and mostly are pretty illuminating, but one says this...

This is not the first time this story had showed up on imgur.

The response says it's been posted 3 times so far and suggests it's done to collect points.

The account history shows multiple posts and that it's contentious, some posts have negative points.

This is questionable at least, and the story does not make a lot of sense, although to be fair, these sort of things often don't make sense.
