I seem to have missed this before, so there's a national movement of people with ideas like his. Wonderful. Unfair grading is apparently alive and well in colleges and universities.

They knew and got caught, they have a clear case of intentional sex discrimination and "told him how to mark properly - -- reverse it

I would say the only reason they came out against it is they would get a reputation for female easypasses and employers would be guarded against the validity of the women's actual level when coming from this place

Affects the "prestige" hence the climbdown, the people hurt by this in the long run, women

I bet the only thing they are actually pissed about is he was dumb enough to advertise it

Grading bias is common, but it's never this explicit. I've had many professors who I suspect were giving extra points to women on the basis of "class participation" or "effort" or something vague like that, but never like this.

As others have said, this is counterproductive to both genders. Men will get resentful, and women will use it as a crutch.

I suspect that the only thing unique about this case is that the professor was honest enough to email students that such bias for women goes on.

Yea, they knew a lawsuit was coming in from that one. Their discrimination is usually more subtle and harder to prove.

Just because they stopped it now does not mean he did not do it before.

This time he got caught.

Now they are going to have to go through every class he ever taught and see if all the grades are the right ones.

The school also needs to get ready for the upcoming lawsuits.
