Safe haven laws are a good thing. A good thing for these kids, because some of them would probably die/be killed otherwise and many of them forced to live with mothers that are not able to support them. A child should be raised in a household where the child is wanted. These mothers are completely overwhelmed with the situation, not fit to be a parent and most of the time don't have the means to know what to do.

Now here is the catch, of course these laws should be extended to men. Men should have the right to abandon all financial responsibilities to a child. There is no other way to achieve true equality.

This child is in the custody of Social Services and will be adopted by a waiting family or by his relatives if they can be located, are safe people, and want to adopt him (rare in cases of baby-dumping, but it does happen). Neither biological parent will pay child support.

They are looking for the woman to make sure that she doesn't die of blood loss or a postpartum infection, and possibly to put her in foster care herself if she is a minor and a victim of abuse, neglect rape or incest (common in cases of baby-dumping, the baby is evidence of a crime and Safe Haven locations tend to insist on showing ID when the baby is dropped off, at which point social services tracks down the mother to make sure she isn't bleeding to death and the rape/incest is exposed during that investigation).

Jesus Christ, have some compassion. I support legal paternal surrender 100%, but that doesn't make me want to snark about the special privileged status of women who are "allowed" to give birth alone in a public toilet and then leave their baby with a note asking the authorities to find him a good home.

Plan B, Abortion, Safe Haven, Single Party Adoption, and still leaves the baby at an airport. And will probably be coddled about how "strong" she was to "give her baby a chance."
