I can't change your view, because it's correct. There was a study done fairly recently, where every single aspect of various jobs were compared to the men vs women doing them. Same job, same position, same amount of hours worked, same education level, etc.

When all factors are fully equal the "pay gap" goes down to about 2%, as in men make $1.00 and women make $0.98. Personally, I think this discrepancy could most likely be explained by the fact more men are willing to ask for raises or talk to a new employer about their wages before being hired. You lose out if you just agree to everything and not look out for yourself financially.

Horrible top commenter. To say that dangerous physically demanding jobs being paid more than teachers (which, are they even? Not where I live at least) is proof of sexism because "teachers work just as hard" is idiotic.

It's simple:

Mens' bell curves are wider than women's. There are more men at the tops and bottoms of "earning potential" than there are women, and we'll assume for the sake of this discussion that the median of each bell curve has the same value.

These bell curves have a lower bound: minimum range.

When you put these two truths together, men's average will be higher than women's average. It's simple mathematics.

If you gave the bell curves and upper bound (say, some form of maximum wage), then by pure math women's average would be higher.

That's the pure discussion, without the complexities of issues such as women receiving so much more government assistance that they don't need to earn as much (women have less drive to earn more) or that men tend to gift to women when they court or marry them (men have more drive to earn more).

When faced with this fact, most feminists then claim that the difference in choices is due to sexist social conditioning, sexist expectations and hostile environments yadda yadda yadda.

Thing is, if they want to equate all differences in outcome to sexist disparity, that's fine, because that's not a game they can win. Sure if you want to say the "wage choice gap" is driven by sex discrimination that benefits men, then you also have to say the 3-to-1 suicide gap, the the 4-to-1 homelessness gap and the nearly order-of-magnitude imprisonment gap must therefore all be driven by sex discrimination that benefits women.

Then tell them to check their privilege.
