Thousands of dads are left in shock as DIY paternity tests soar. Up to 30,000 tests are being performed every year, says Alphabiolabs. In the UK about 750,000 babies are born every year. Feminists want the test to be illegal without the written consent of the mother.

Isn't not letting people use the bathroom against the Geneva convention and considered to be torture?

The article didn't mention the jail time that the guards received for torture and murder, does anyone have information on this?

yeah, they didn't murder or torture him. they followed policy (far as i can tell) and dude died. that jail was not equipped to handle that guys mental problems. he should have had nurses and or doctors checking on him. i suspected and verified that January 22 2017 was a Sunday, worst timing. doctors probably all were home and nurses short staffed. usually nurses have to make the call if higher care is needed. its so easy to hate the people laughing because you don't know the toll that shit takes on people.

Here's an article from a real newspaper, and the situation is even more horrifying for both prisoner and staff than the tabloid let on: https://www.google.com/amp/amp.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/investigations/article205363229.html

This guy was in jail, instead of a mental hospital, for FIFTEEN MONTHS. He couldn't stabilize and they weren't qualified (or budgeted) to safely care for an unstable schizophrenic. There was a terrible crime here, but it happened way over the heads of the employees who were on-scene when this man died.

Mentally ill criminals belong on forensic psych wards, period. As a society, we need to find the political will to pay for this.

There was a similarly bad case in Australia.

A schizophrenic woman submitted herself to hospital when she started experiencing symptoms. That's gold standard behaviour. Schizophrenics can't prevent episodes but they can come to recognise the early signs and get themselves to safety.

The hospital turned her away. That's not gold standard practice. She killed a neighbour's child with an axe.

This being Queensland where the government is never at fault and their government appointed judges know that, the judge thew the book at her.

What a goddamn tyranny Queensland is.

Treating patients costs money, but somehow incarcerating criminals is profitable.

[–]Mencite -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

ThirdTurnip you're missing the whole point of this. This woman wasn't abused by staff and certainly wasn't sexually abused.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If it helps you, the child who died was a young boy.

[–]Mencite 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

WTF why would that help me??

[–]BanSpeech 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You hit the nail on head. I worked in a county jail for a few months and the staff was overwhelmed with being forced to care for the mentally ill. It wasn't their job, but social services didn't want shit to do with it, and the state makes local jails care for mentally ill for months (sometimes longer than the sentence could have eve been) while the courts completed mental health evaluations (look up California 1367 and 1368 hearings). The whole thing is a nightmare for everyone, and the state is too busy playing politics to actually help people in need.

People reasonably suspected to be mentally incompetent need to go straight to psych health facilities, not jails. They can serve their time in an environment that actually helps them, not harms them more.

[–]Securitybob 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

yeah, unfortunately you have lots of non mentals trying to scam their way into that.

[–]ThatNinaGAL 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hear you. I don't object to a hardass on triage. But so often, those initial decisions are never meaningfully revisited, and even when they are, the chronic shortage of beds leads to the hospital shrink overruling the jailhouse shrink on a case where they both know that the patient is not safe and is also endangering the corrections staff and the other prisoners.

[–]Kuato2012 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

they followed policy (far as i can tell) and dude died.

It seems very unlikely that completely immobilizing someone in a chair for 46 hours is policy. I'm not a medical doctor, but this seems like a sure-fire way to give anyone a blood clot.

[–]Wsing1974 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bad policy is still policy.

[–]JJHearts 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is true. I want to act like I know I am better than these people, and would never torture and murder someone like that, but the sad fact is that this is human nature.

This has been known for a long time, ever since the Stanford prison experiments. The vast majority of people put in that position of power over another human will act this way. Especially when the person has severe mental illness and doesn't respond to your demands like you want.

This isn't even really a mens rights issue. There was a story and documentary I saw on here not long ago where something similar was done to a juvenile girl in Canada with mental health issues. The girl was Ashley Smith and she was locked up in "therapeutic quiet time" (solitary confinement) for months - years before killing herself. Just as horrific of a story.

I wish humans could find a better way to deal with our weakest and most vulnerable.

[–]dukunt 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I couldn't watch the video but I sadly do agree with the laughing comment. As a child whenever I was in trouble I would smile. This would piss off my teachers something fierce. Even when my mother was breathing her last breaths she got what is known as a death rattle. This sounded so funny to me that I laughed at the odd sounds she was making. I didn't mean to laugh. I couldn't help it.

[–]Securitybob 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i too laugh at the wrong time. like when ever i am accused of something i didn’t do. people who dont know me think i did it.

[–]bakedpotato486 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What sort of policy allows a man to be strapped to a chair for forty-six consecutive hours?

[–]Securitybob -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

you should google it.

[–]perplexedm 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

its so easy to hate the people laughing because you don't know the toll that shit takes on people.

It is easy not to laugh at a dying human being. Even wild animals may know better.

[–]Securitybob -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

what? no no they don't. this is all kinds of retarded.

[–]Mencite -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're pretty stupid if you think this is ok. You know very well a woman wouldn't be treated anyway as bad as this man would hence its on a Men's Rights sub. And you've got something seriously wrong with you if you'd laugh at an incident like this.

[–]Securitybob -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're pretty stupid if you think this is ok.

If you could read more than just one thing, you realize i said its not ok, he shouldn't have been there that long.

You know very well a woman wouldn't be treated anyway as bad as this man would hence its on a Men's Rights sub.

i know from personal experience that these chairs are used on women. i didn't realize it was MR i was getting into.

And you've got something seriously wrong with you if you'd laugh at an incident like this.

YES. People are just starting to realize that seeing horrors every day in your working life is a traumatizing experience. police, firefighters, Emt's, corrections officers, child protective care, and many more people who see shit like this almost every day have some sort of trauma. laughing helps even if its not looked at to be professionally.

Fuck all of these pieces of shit officers. I wish one of them died instead of that guy. I hate people like this. I was in jail and a mentally ill man hung himself and died. I saw his body swinging from the window and while they were getting the body out all the guards were laughing and joking. So once again fuck these people. They are the scum of the earth.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Geneva Convention doesn't apply here.

[–]JJHearts 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I know it's for prisoners of war, but I think the geneva convention is a decent metric that all prisoners should be treated by.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty sure the UN has a thing or two on that. Tho again its the UN which is arguably the largest feminist organization around.

[–]mikebong64 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well in most instances of a pow being unstable and violent they are beaten or killed. And this guy was strapped to a chair

[–]JJHearts 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And tortured, and killed.

[–]hearthqueef 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it says nobody was charged and you can bet nobody will be. They just let this guy die sitting in his own shit and laughed over his dying body.

[–]Incident-Pit 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

If they were captured enemy combatants then the Geneva conventions would be relevant.

As it is though, they aren't.

[–]JJHearts 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Wow most original comment award goes to you. Faggot.

[–]Incident-Pit 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Your performance there was mediocre.

Hollow point bullets are also banned by the Geneva Conventions, and essentially every police officer in the U.S. is issued them, civilians aren't bound by the law of armed conflict you absolute crotch goblin.

[–]JJHearts -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Like I fucking said, this has already been established by another commenter. You don't need to repeat what other said when I already responded to it.

[–]Incident-Pit -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then be a good little boy, have some humility, and don't call people meatballs. You're response is causing you to slip from merely mediocre to sub par.

[–]JJHearts 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Man you're like the poster boy for /r/iamverysmart

Settle the fuck down. Don't make redundant comments moron.

[–]Incident-Pit 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man, I love it when retards accuse normal people of thinking they're geniuses, because those people are smarter than retards like them. Pure comedy gold. Have a like.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is sadistic. They should all be on their way to a long prison sentence

[–]Mencite 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Surely having female guards watching male prisoners forced to be naked is sexual abuse. They should be charged for this.

[+]Securitybob -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

their not the ones robing and raping mugging and doing criminal shit.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The man in this article did not rape, mug, or do anything other than minor criminal shit as far as the article goes. Please don't generalize groups of people.

[–]Securitybob 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

il try not to generalize criminals.

[–]backthefuckupbitch 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just you know torturing and murdering and doing criminal shit.

[–]Securitybob -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i can see how to little children this looks like that.

[–]Hoganable 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe you would like a nice 40 hour non-consentual sit down, Mister Securitybob

[–]Securitybob 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

no i wouldn't that's why i don't commit crimes. but that's besides the point that this guy shouldn't have been there.
