I'm imagining techno monasteries in the future, where men can live well together enjoying shared resources and freedom from drama.

You can guarantee that marketing people would hack that dream to pieces.

I have thought about joining a monastery for years now. I have never wanted children and my wife had to drag me in a catatonic state to the justice of the peace.

I have never understood why I felt this way until the #metoo male massacre began. I should have seen it coming a long time ago, having grown up in a family dominated by man-hating females. I suppose I thought I had outrun it, but females’ hatred for males appears to have caught up to me, and now I have no choice but to face it head on.

If I were an optimist, I would welcome the advent of such male-oriented communities since they would be prime movers in reducing the numbers of unskilled and hopeless men (like the ones that the article talks about) by providing mentorship for young men and boys.

Given how (apparently relentless) the infection of school and university education by post-modernism/ SJW/ Feminism is, I'm increasingly in favour of gender-segregated education.

oooh. Interesting idea.

That would actually be pretty cool. I imagine some secluded mountain valley or tropical island where we do leasure activities, and build cool shit like robots in our spare time.

If we have to scrap our Constitution and write I new one, then I support the Right to be free from Meladrama for men.

The reality is that men are only valued for what they can provide: Resources and security. All the "soulmate" bs is just that.

37 still single here. Never married. All I encounter are girls with unreasonable expectations in relationships. I'm like, you're 35 stop expecting your relationship to be like the one you had at 16. I'm not a Disney prince. I don't make $100,000 a year. You can't be a stay at home soccer mom wife while I work myself to death to support your lavish lifestyle of play.

Sorry, a little bitter here.

36 here. All the dates I've been on recently one of the topics of conversation is how they hate their jobs. You just know it the second they move in with you they will quit that job and rely on you. Nope! I refuse to be an ATM. And ya they still do that snap chat selfie shit like idiot teens too.

40 and married. I am a relatively high earner in a high stress job. Most of my female colleagues hate their husbands who make less than them and whom they consider lazy. My male colleagues who have SAHWs are essentially dealing with grown up teenagers, who still go out for "ladies night" with their girlfriends, take endless selfies, gossip about the garbage on TV, and are generally vain, vapid, and utterly vacuous. They only colleagues I know with stable marriages are men who married other high earners or whose wives were former high earners and are now on reduced work loads or not as time-demanding jobs.

This is a longish article but worth the read.

In the 20 (yes, twenty) years since it was published, shit's only got worse.

[edited for clarity] This is a copy of an article originally published in the Sydney Morning Herald in 1998, back in the days when Fairfax Media still had a backbone.

Since then he’s been through a decade or so of women making it clear that they are not interested. James sums up what he’s learnt about women. “If you are a women and you want a man, it’s not so much what he’s like; it’s ‘Does he have the car? Does he have the clothes? The money?’ It’s a big part of women’s culture to go after the bloke with the money. Women who don’t think they can make it on their own want to latch onto a guy who’s making it so their own lives will be easier.”

Feminists can chalk this up to “toxic masculinity” all they want; when most women reinforce it, trying to re-educate men won’t do squat. Women are just as much a part of the problem as men, so focusing on men like they’re the problem will just make matters worse. It boggles my mind how this simple concept seems to elude so many of them.

I've tried to illustrate that point on several subs in the last few months, and am usually met with silence, personal attacks that don't address my argument at all, or comment deletions and bans. I think a part of then know that gender dynamics take two to tango, they just don't care. Much simpler ideologically to place all the blame at men's feet and say they must fix it all somehow. That way, when we are unable to fix what needs both parties to fix, they can blame us while behaving the same way as always.

This article couldn't be more correct. It's really sad to see how far the globalists have pushed things. The war on men/boys.

[–]splodgenessabounds[S] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes.

I've had this vaguely-assembled notion in the back of my mind for years on the connection between de-industrialisation/ workforce cuts/ off-shoring of skilled labour/ blah blah shareholder profiteering and how men are still brought up with the expectation of being both proud of themselves through their work and primary breadwinners supporting their families.

One day I'll corral all the half-connected ranting that goes on in my head into something cogent; in the meantime, I am convinced that the blokes in Arndt's article (and the millions like them in other parts of the world) are the effect of watching their fathers' generation who suffered at the hands of Thatcherism/ Reaganism (and increasing mechanisation) and the wilful sacrifice of millions of working men.

Far from simply coming home to roost, the chickens have occupied the hen-house and won't be leaving any time soon.

To make people consume more.

If everyone was happy to live in shared housing, stay with their parents until they were married, share a crappy old car, etc., it would mean less money for producers.

Get people associating success with having their own house, driving their own car, being totally self-sufficient, having all the latest technology and consumer goods. Stigmatise communal living, riding the bus, cheap clothes, etc.. All created through advertising and the media.

Anyone who can afford to, spends as instructed and buys everything that they are told will lead them to happiness. Those that cannot afford it are marginalised and forgotten about.

"The damage that has been done to the male workforce through the economic restructuring is now coming back to haunt us,” Birrell said.

This is a perfect example of why UBI is a critical male issue. If women fail economically, there are a hundred thousand men ready to support them. If men fail economically, there is no one. A system for those men who are no longer able to work becouse the jobs are all taken needs to be established.

And no, there are not magical infinite jobs.

[–]the_unseen_one 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I could easily find a woman if I really wanted to and lowered my standards. The real question is: why? What can she actually provide me that outweighs the risks, and that I can't get from friends, family, myself, or pets? All I can really think of is sex and babies, but neither are worth what I'd put on the line. I'd rather be childless and celibate, but secure in my life and security. Doubtless there are many men with no choice, but there are also many who have to choose to be alone just out of self interest. I'd like things to be different, but I have no power over the laws and society. All I can do is look out for myself.

Crazy to think this article is two decades old. Things have really spiraled since then.

I'd live in a college dorm
