The preface to this article proves the writer is a POS so skip the article and skip the people who support it. Has this POS never heard of grooming, coercion, power imbalance, and social pressure. Sorry, as someone much older I can tell you he is, and was a child. What this woman did is reprehensible and acting like it's nothing, as the writer implies, shows they're reprehensible too.

I'm fully supportive of making age of consent 18 with a prohibition on high school staff having sex with students at their school. There is too much inconsistency in the law and I mean inconsistency of thought. I do see an argument for barring someone who can take legal responsibility for a child (pay child support, etc.) having sex with someone who can't take legal responsibility for a child.

If age of consent is too high then so is age to vote, age to drink, age to drive, age to be drafted, age to enter into a contract, age to deciding whether you'll play high school football, etc.

In most states the age of consent is 16. And the “Romeo and Juliet law” means that the age of consent is reduced if the couple is within 4 years of each other, minimum age of 13.

Age of consent should be lower. To 15 at the lowest in my opinion. Only after they make it a crime to give someone an STD.

I was just thinking that most 16 year old males I knew would have loved to fuck some of the hot teachers we had. And then I started thinking on how sexualized some of the girls were, and heck, it probably happens that a girl fucks a man completely willingly as well.

But then you start thinking of the possibilities to harm kids if you make it legal, and it gets kind eerie.

I mean, a teacher should definitely know better, and is in a position of power and shit. For some reason, I'd tend to feel more for a girl being fucked by an old fart; I know it's not equal, but it's sort of hard driven into me for some reason.

I say, jail the teacher, she should have known better.

One thing we need to change is the application of a mistake of fact defense. In many States, an honest and reasonable mistake of fact as to someone's age is not a defense to carnal knowledge.

So....hypothetically.....in a case where I lied to a 29 year old guest at a hotel where I worked as a room service waiter at the age of 16 and told her that I was 19, she would be technically guilty of forcible sodomy if she gave me a blow job and I turned her in. I would be considered a "victim" in that situation, and by no means would I have been a victim.

And, as a defense attorney, I think there should be one uniform age for consent in the United States. I think that a mistake of fact defense should apply uniformly. There should be a Romeo and Juliet exception that applies uniformly. And, I think that young women are just as horny as young men, so there should not be a disparity in sentencing if there is a law prohibiting a relationship between teachers and students.
