At first I assumed that this doesn't belong in this sub because it's not a rights issue. After reading it I can confirm that it doesn't belong here, but damnit it still pisses me off to know that a PC police is at the helm of the overall Star wars universe and that they're using teams of scientists to screw around with movies.

A new, unpublished analysis of “Star Wars” films shows striking progress in their representation of gender and race.

Star Wars, set in a universe with many other species, some of them mechanical. The bar scene in the original movie comes to mind. With all that to choose from, what do we actually find? Gender - human - and race - human. It's narrowing the perspective.

women spoke 6.3 percent of dialogue in “A New Hope,” the 1977 film that kicked off the franchise. In contrast, women accounted for 27.8 percent of all dialogue in “The Force Awakens” in 2015. Even more promising, in “Rogue One” (2016) nonwhite characters accounted for 44.7 percent of all dialogue, a marked increase from zero in the 1977 original.

I want to see the numbers for Wookies.

Science fiction was a vehicle for considering other possibilities, and its fan base was mostly male. Inevitably, the ladies moved in, took it over, extinguished all the variety, and now it's all about them.

TL;DR: A diversity committee had power over the script of the last three star wars movies.

Not a surprise, but it's good to have confirmation.
