Fucking disgusting that our society allows this.

[–]jeff_the_nurse 17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely despicable.

[–]StanleyGoodspeeds 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why don't they ever get comments from the judges and prosecutors pushing for these ridiculous rulings

Every day is man's day!!!!!!! /sarcasm

[–]UDT22 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That sucks but are we really surprised at this horsehit

[–]dolandoes 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I found this ages ago via @Femitheist on Twitter.

Terrible.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Somebody make a fake one with reversed genders to get reaction out of twitter.

[+]solidstatesam points 9 years ago* [recovered] (16 children) | Copy Link

Well hold on. The sex was consensual though?

[–]Sajjeto 19 points20 points21 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

No. A minor cannot consent to a major.

[–]Revoran 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think you mean "an adult" since we're not talking about rape of musical chords.

[+]solidstatesam points 9 years ago* [recovered] (13 children) | Copy Link

Thats not my point.. The male decided to have sex. By law it was rape but he still made the decision. Thos is ine if those where morality and the law collide.

If he didnt willingly participate in the sex that would be different.

[–]bluntymctokems 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Again, he was a minor so he couldn't consent. Same thing with an unconscious victim.

[+]solidstatesam points 9 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

That is very far from the same thing. Legal consent and against your will are totally different. What is this sub becoming.

[–]bluntymctokems 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So you're saying that he was 13 and wanted sex, so it doesn't matter that an adult took advantage of him, had a kid in secret, then he gets charged back child support to when he couldn't even legally hold a job. What exactly are you getting at? Not just the semantic bullshit of a difference between consent and desire in this case.

[–]nforne 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Would you think it okay if an adult man had sex with a 'consenting' 13 year old girl?

Would that be morally justifiably in your eyes?

[–]Bonesteel50 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Male hyperagency vs female hypoagency at work strongly Here. How can a child understand the consequences associated with the sex? They can't and that's why it's still wrong even if he was into it.

[+]solidstatesam points 9 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

If he killed someone you wouldn't be calling him an innocent "child"... He's 1 not 2. Bad situation all around but still.

[–]Bonesteel50 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Reverse sexes and see how you feel about all this. You can't see that you hold unreasonably high standards for men and none for women

[+]solidstatesam points 9 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

You're reading way too much into it. We're not talking about my standards for women. We're talking about this particular situation and this person's role in it.

[–]Nexyl 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Buddy, we've all got options. The thing is, if someone is not of the legal age of consent, what that's trying to say is "They can't think straight/logically enough to make the decision". Or, it's just plain wrong.

For example, a hormone boosted 15 year old going through puberty is more likely to think more about the experience, and not the concequences of his/her sexual actions. This is even worse when the young lad/lass is going through a rough patch. So. Hormone boosted teen + rough patch + other person willing to have sexual intercourse in order to make up for said rough patch = most likely sex.

It's a very dangerous thing to poke around with, but thats how things are. It sucks.

Sorry if some of the things I tried to explain come across as illogical or unclear, I'm not very good at informing others/explaining things clearly. Hope I don't offend anyone.

Cheers.

[+]solidstatesam points 9 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

No. Men do not have as many options as women when it comes to pregnancy and taking responsibility.

As far as being hormone filled and making rational decisions.. I had plenty of girls willing to have sex with me from 13 up and I was able to refrain and use my head... It's not impossible.

[–]Nexyl 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same thing goes for ladies, though. The hormones apply to both sides, as your statement proves. They weren't thinking, they were just wanting

[+]bannedprincessny points 9 years ago* [recovered] (19 children) | Copy Link

doesnt mean he wasnt willing.

since part of the country wants to force female actual rape victims to carry the resulting children to term, how would it be fair to let male victims off the hook scott free.

plus wouldnt every deadbeat man say "i shouldnt have to pay for it i was raped."

[–]SporkTornado 24 points25 points26 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

since part of the country wants to force female actual rape victims to carry the resulting children to term, how would it be fair to let male victims off the hook scott free.

But women can get abortions. Even Ireland, notable for having the strictest abortion laws of any Western nation. Stills allows a woman to get an abortion if she was raped.

[–]RapeMatters 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

He couldn't be willing. He lacked the mental capacity TO consent.

Brain development, and the slowness thereof, is an intractable reality.

[+]YuenHsiaoTieng -17 points-16 points-15 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

That's as big a load of garbage as the child support is. You're all kinds of brain washed if you think humans weren't meant to have sex until they're 18.

[–]Revoran 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

You clearly didn't read the fucking article.

This guy was 14 when he became a father. Meaning he could have been as young as 13 when the woman (then 20) had sex with him.

We're not talking about a couple of love-struck 16 year olds experimenting with sex here and wearing a condom. We're talking about a 20 year old sex offender taking advantage of a young teen and getting pregnant.

And situations like this are EXACTLY WHY we have age of consent laws. Because 14 year olds usually aren't capable of making an informed decision to weigh that possibility when deciding to have sex. And if it does result in pregnancy, 14 year olds sure as hell aren't ready to be parents.

[+]YuenHsiaoTieng -15 points-14 points-13 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The reason we have age of consent laws is sex-hating man-hating feminists like Josephine Butler. 13 year olds are perfectly capable of having sex. They've been doing it just fine for millions of years before we decided to criminalize normal human behavior.

[–]blackxxwolf3 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the reason we have age of consent laws is to protect minors you fucking pedophile.

[–]Revoran 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're disgusting. Stop apologizing for rape.

[–]TranquilityAndPeace 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You should try to say this in r/Feminism, you would instantly get banned for "victim blaming". I think you are right about them beeing capabale and perhaps even mentally old enough, but the question is, did he choose to be a father? Did he know that he becomes a father through sex? Would she abort the pregnancy if he did not want a kid?

We've been killing and eating each other for millions of years too, but at some point we advanced to the point where the perfectly normal human behavior of cannibalism was deemed criminal.

[–]YuenHsiaoTieng 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And instead "advanced" to the point where putting millions of people in prison for non-violent and certainly non-malevolent crimes is okay.

having read the article now.. girls who are taken advantage of by grown men in authority over them do not just forget about the whole thing and grow up perfectly ajusted, graduate high school, and go on to colledge. something breaks when this happens. theresa stigma in society where this girl must have deserved it, its her fault, shes been used now and therefore has less value if any value at all. then theres the why me feeling, depression, anxiety, fear

with boys (right or not) if a teenaged boy has sex with a woman, especially if its a teacher it is generally looked at like,,, 'awesome for you kid'.

having said that, i read the article, and i have to say that he was a grown up when he recieved the court papers and he didnt respond, and this is what happens when you ignore court papers.

had he got right on it he could have got a lawyer and his age at the time of conception would have been relivant. but he lost by default. so. thats why. not male discrimination.

[–]RapeMatters 28 points29 points30 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Oh he pulled a stupid, no doubt about it. But it's a common stupid. This however:

This:

having read the article now.. girls who are taken advantage of by grown men in authority over them do not just forget about the whole thing and grow up perfectly ajusted, graduate high school, and go on to colledge. something breaks when this happens. theres a stigma in society where this girl must have deserved it, its her fault, shes been used now and therefore has less value if any value at all. then theres the why me feeling, depression, anxiety, fear. its traumatic for girls.

with boys (right or not) if a teenaged boy has sex with a woman, especially if its a teacher it is generally looked at like,,, 'awesome for you kid'.

Never counsel a male rape victim. You will kill them. Yes boys are high fived and congratulated - while they feel like shit inside. Girls were raped. They were victims. They were taken advantage of. Society tries to help them.

Boys are high fives and told it's a conquest. Repeatedly. Even when they feel it's wrong. If they try to tell someone it was wrong, they're mocked as gay. They don't grow up well adjusted.

They grow up broken, try to slap some duct tape over it, and carry on. Because enduring the pain without complaint or help is what a man must do, or he's classified as not a man.

[+]bannedprincessny points 9 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

i dont council any rape victims.

well, still better then how girls look at other girls who been raped by a teacher or classmate. i assure you its not they call you gay. and not one high five either. we dont even have duct tape. its extremely emotional because females , especially teenaged females, are just naturally very emotional. it effects everything about them. i bet they wish they were boys. they couldnt keep quiet about it if the suddenly forgot how to speak.

theres a difference between men and women. thats why there are men and women. if we were supposed to be exactly the same, we'd be exactly the same .

[–]RapeMatters 31 points32 points33 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its extremely emotional because females , especially teenaged females, are just naturally very emotional

I'll give you a hint on something. There's very little evidence for men being less emotional than women. Men certainly show less emotion, but that's not the same as having less.

Cognitive study is a fascinating field. Most people (both men and women) decide emotionally and then justify logically. This just happens so fast we think it's the other way.

Socially however, women are allowed to be emotional and seek help. Men are supposed to "man up" and drink alcohol until the pain stops. There are a number of reasons men commit suicide at 3-4x the rate of women. None of them are men are less emotional.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meanwhile the folk who work with victims will often tell you that female perpetrators cause more long term harm. The default ignorance you demonstrate here will be cited as a contributing factor to that greater harm.

[–]ragingcunt234 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dude, no. I'm friends with a guy who was raped by an older woman when he was 13, and he has not coped well with it.

He finds it incredibly hard to maintain a relationship, has issues trusting women, blames himself, etc. Just because society doesn't judge it in the same way that it does when an adult male fucks a young girl does not mean the boy comes out of it unscathed.

[+]yoshi_win -13 points-12 points-11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes this is insane. But it is also 3 years old and already been discussed here multiple times. Got anything new?
