"Men have ridiculous standards on women"

TIL a man's chance of marrying a taller woman is 1 in 720 (compare that to the odds of dying in a car accident of 1 in 77). And I thought men have the high, dealbreaking standards. AMIRITE?

As a 5'4" man, I agree. I would say that the "short men making less money" is probably due to being culturally conditioned which forces that to happen. I personally have never felt disadvantaged career wise when it comes to that.

But dating on the other hand? I haven't even tried. I've written myself as undateable due to my height. I know its toxic, and a sad way to think about it, but its not easy to just "change your mindset."

[–]crazypants88 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

I'm 6'1, I've very rarely gotten any verifiable female attention pretty much my entire adult life (that one time being a drunk-off-her-ass lady in a bar hitting on me) It's not a guarantee of anything.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Imagine a guy who looks exactly like you, but 5'5". He'd be doing even worse.

[–]crazypants88 -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's basically my friend. He's 5'9" to be fair but he has always done much better than me with girls and we vaguely look alike, at least similar bodytypes and we are fairly distant relatives as well. I'm not denying height is seen as a positive trait, but that doesn't mean that you are doomed to be alone if your shorter than average. There are lots of ways you can compensate. Increasing your value through either working out or focusing on your career or just focusing on yourself and improving yourself

If there's one thing I've learned it is that women do not find men who need women to validate them attractive

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

5'9 isn't 5'5, though. It doesn't sound like a huge difference, but it's the difference between short and normal.

Of course, I don't know you, or this other guy. What do you think he has that you don't?

[–]crazypants88 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it illustrates the principle that height is a factor but not necessarily a deciding factor.

And he's got better social skills.

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

5'9" is average height. And if you're average height, women think that you're short. It's mathematically absurd, of course, but no one pays attention to any real numbers.

Your friend probably drives a car which is more expensive than yours.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Its not a guarantee, but its a prerequisite for many.

[–]crazypants88 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Sure but so is a great physique, a great income, high status, etc. I think if you invest in yourself enough, both in terms of working out and in terms of your career, you can do very well with women, even if you're short. If you're willing to play the game that is. Abundance mentality is also something that can work well for shorter guys I believe.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

No, but you don't understand. A man can have a lot of those other things and get fully turned down for being short.

I'll definitely try. But I know that I'll get a lot more rejections.

[–]omegaphallic 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You know what works? Just paying for it, then you don't have to give a flying fuck about what a chick finds most attractive in a man, like height.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Paying for sex is definitely a relationship then. /s

[–]omegaphallic 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Its a business relationship. ;p

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wish.

[–]Filter201 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have a short guy in my extended friends circle. And he does quite well with the girls. A bit of red pill - type game (I don't think he is full on red piller) works really well for him. He's not rich, he's not built, he just has some game, a bit of douchiness just for show but not full douchebag.

It's not like it's not a disadvantage. You'll have fewer opportunities. But the really killer is the insecurity. Because when (not if, but when) you meet girls who don't care about your height, and then they find out you're all insecure about it, they're going to lose interest in you. And I think that's the real secret to being successful with girls. Do the best with what you have, multiply your opportunities and leave your insecurities at home.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

IDK though. The "confidence" stuff seems like a meme.

[–]omegaphallic -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't work that way.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Their called Prostitutions qnd they're profession does in fact work that way.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Prostitutes are definitely relationships. /s

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A business relationship, yes, a sexual relationship yes, and romantic relationship, for pretend maybe, but otherwise no.

A business relationship is just two or more people that conduct business together.

[–]Halafax 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

My friend's (unattractive) mother tried to seduce me. In front of my friend. She was drunk off her ass at a bowling alley, we went to pick her up.

Does that count?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yah I understand but just know there are some of us who prefer men around our own size or as close to it as possible.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I've seen it being asked in youtube videos and it seems like a 50/50 split.

It looks like women are cool with a man who is around her height.

But online dating which is said to be easy and effortless is nearly impossible for most of us. But it seems like women who wouldn't respond to a short man on those online dating apps/websites do respond IRL, which is good reassurance. But its just harder.

Maybe I should try. Good thing is that I'm still kinda young. I'm 20.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm 5'4" as well, you don't need to worry about your height with dating. Just go and put yourself out there and be confident, I guarantee you will find someone if you look. It's all about perspective and if you don't let your height bother you (or at least don't let people know it bothers you) then it won't bother them either. Don't ever be sad because you of something you can't control about your genes, embrace it. It is part of you.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

5'4" male or female? How did you end up doing? How did you make the approach despite your height?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Male. And I just sort of do it. Height was never really an insecurity for me, and I tend to choose to approach people similar in height to me or shorter so it's not too big of a difference. My cousin who is about the same height got married recentishly and has a baby. Your height isn't what's stopping you, your insecurity about your height is.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope so.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Uh yahhhh because everywhere men go they're told they're not viable if they're short. Of course they're going to be depressed. It's not the shortness. It's just the stupid reaction to it. Personally I prefer short men. I can't stand that whole neck ache thing from continually looking up and it just works better sexually.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I despise how people blame us.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

ikr it's not like anybody actively chose their height. I know I sure didn't.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah me neither.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I know it's hard but don't you let peoples' stupid ideas get you down. The size of a man has NOTHING to do with anything physical whatsoever.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, I'll try my best to tell myself that.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good good :)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Maybe see a counselor.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Will that change my existence? I will have to face that when I start trying to ask women out I'll have wayyy more rejections than I'd want.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Will that change my existence?

It could change how you experience it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Not going to happen.

I can at best be in a mental state similar to a person whose loved one passed away. Not sad, but meh.

[–]PurpleBanner 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

yeah, its like accepting a death sentance.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm short too man. You just got to make up for it dress nice, work out, and build confidence. Only way to make up for it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes I will.

[–]PiousOwl 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm 5'7 and I'm not depressed, i feel fine. I always tell my friends who are taller that my height had to go somewhere. :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Did you do well romantically?

[–]PiousOwl 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Dating is not really my thing but if i did i would be pretty confident that I'd be all right

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do it my man! Do it!

[–]PiousOwl 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thank you for the vote of confidence!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

:)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, because every female is an immediate cunt to you based on a reactionary response they made from a height judgement all of her friends told her to make. #PATRIARCHY!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being short isn't my problem. My problem is there are far too many tall folks (e.g. assholes) on this planet.
