Im for certain going into the army when I turn 18, so apparently it's wrong for me to wear the same things as the people I look up to wear. My uncles and cousins are all in the army and they wear camo, so I guess they are all psycho black person killers now.

Think about this another way.... Camo is used to blend into your surroundings. So if you are an office drone, and you are wearing khaki pants and a plaid shirt, you could be considered to be wearing camo (because you are blending in with your coworkers who are wearing something similar).

If we look at the history of Military clothing, it was really only worn pre-1950/60s outside of the Army by actual enlisted or ex-Soldiers.

Then, during the 60s it was co-opted by the anti-war movement who would wear for example Frog Jackets or Army Surplus Overcoats often emblazoned with a massive Peace Symbol.

This was a method of subversion, taking something seen as aggressive, or hierarchical and making it the opposite removing it from and creating a new context.

For instance Jim Hendrix would wear a brightly coloured Military Frog Jacket on stage often. The Beatles all dressed like it for Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

If I could be arsed I am sure we could track the history of Civilian-Military fashion all the way to today without it becoming a symbol of misogyny and racism but what the point, this article and that website are utter trash soon to be on the scrapheap.

Holy positive biases, Batman! I don't know if that author is just so ashamed of her own ethnicity, or she has really become convinced that minority ethnicities can do absolutely no wrong. That whole piece is rife with total assumptions of intent on the part of law enforcement, and unwavering presumption of innocence on every non-white's part. Obviously I am not saying that white LEOs can't be shit-heads, but not all non-whites are fucking saints either. (I also thought "cisgendered" and "queer" were mutually exclusive, but I guess these types need to signal their participation in the victim Olympics.)
