I'm growing out my hair. Everyday I'm teased about my hair at work. Yet, if I ridiculed on a female coworker's appearance I'd be sexist and rude.

So stand up for yourself. Unless these people are your friends, they have no business commenting one way or another about your appearance unless it violates company dress code or is offensive (and even then, it's your boss's responsibility to talk to you about it, not coworkers).

To many young people feel the need to voice what ever is on their fucking minds in the work place because they think everyone is their buddy. Set them straight and tell them to kindly keep their opinions to themselves, or just go to HR and complain about them creating a "toxic work environment" (or both).

I've had long hair basically all my life. Usually it's not a problem, but every now and then I've gotten women say things like "you'd look so much better if you cut your hair." I just wonder how they'd react if I said "you'd look so much better 20 pounds lighter." Probably not very positively

You might have noticed that in general it's more socially acceptable to criticize males on their appearance than females, whether it's hair length or height or weight or fashion choices. Guys all have to have short hair, be tall, be fit, and have very limited wardrobe options if they want to avoid being regularly made fun of. "Body shaming" women or "controlling" what they wear will get anyone labelled a misogynist these days

I have long hair and I just talk back to people if they try to comment, it is dumb and annoying, but of all the things out there you can have people do to you it's the absolute bottom of my list these days.

Dude... I totally get you. I used to grow my hair out, in part because I simply liked having long hair, but also because once it got to 8 or 9 inches, I'd shave it off and donate it so it could be used to make wigs for kids with cancer who lost their hair during cemo. Despite the fact that I told people this, women (never men: literally never) would make fun of or criticize my hair. Some were friends and I'm fine with that because we have a good rapport, but women I didn't even know would come up to me and tell me I needed a hair cut. I would just tell them that I hadn't solicited their opinion on the matter.

Growing a beard? Same thing. I had women I barely knew walking up to me and telling me I needed to shave it.
