Many good comments on the article. This one got me though:

"When an older man sleeps with an underage girl it is far worse than the other way around. Women aren't predatory like men. When women behave this way, it is because of psychological problems, probably caused by men. That's why men deserve to be punished and women should be treated differently and offered help"

I teach 13 year olds; I assure you, there's something deeply wrong with you if you're interested in either the boys or the girls. They're at the age that they're beginning to really feel like they're mature. But they're still very much children.

I'm thinking of some of the 13 year old boys who are my students. There's something very predatory and deeply wrong with a woman who's 39 being interested in them.

When I was a teenager I remember being over at a neighbor's house. A woman -late 30's- got on top of me as I was laying on the sofa. Chest to chest face to face. And started talking about the sex we would be having if she was "younger" I was honestly scared. Not in fear for my safety exactly but extremely uncomfortable and concerned. This does in fact go on but as long as it's perceived as "not predatory" and an act that is part of male nature but an obscure aberration that needs sympathy and help if its a "her" doing it....it will continue to not get recognition

Where are the words 'paedophile', 'molested', 'groomed' or 'raped'? And the article is pretty light on highlighting that they were children, it may well be true that a 13 year old boy is in his teens but, come on, "teenaged boys" is used deliberately because of the connotation

I wonder now, had exactly the same things happened — Ms. Tompkins getting drunk, doing stripteases, having group sex etc. — with boys just over the age of consent, what would have happened if she had then made a false rape allegation?

For instance, what if the boys were 16 or 17, just over the age of consent; so not illegal but still embarrassing for her if she were caught? If she had made a false rape accusation to avoid embarrassment — not implausible, she was low enough to accuse her underage victims of being rapists in order to try and save her own skin — what would have happened then?

Presumably, the full mechanism of "listen and believe" would have kicked in. The police would have taken her perspective from the start. If she had been caught in a few months time, she'd have been able to give pre-recorded video evidence to avoid the "ordeal" of testifying in court.

In that situation who, I wonder, would be sitting in goal now: Ms Tompkins or one of the schoolboys?
