femicides account for nearly 20 percent of global homicides

Twenty percent??! O Mah gaw! It should be zero cuz only men should ever be murdered, amirite girlfriend? Those other boring old eighty percent of the murders are just fine.

Too often, the police and media treat the killing of women as an isolated incident 'with no further threat to the public,' rather than as a pattern,"

And when mehnz (p'tui!) get murdered? The whole damn world goes into Super Extra Double Emergency Lock-Down Mode, yes? Those crimes always get the highest possible priority, right?

an exclusion that campaigners say reflects a broader reluctance to acknowledge the widespread nature of hatred of women.

Campaigners also like to say that all crimes against women are hate crimes (unless we're talking woman-on-woman crimes, for that cohort is incapable of feeling hate), but that's neither here nor there. So, were this author's fantasy-legislation reality, someone with porn on their computer could be put-on trial again at the federal level after they were found innocent of a crime at the state or local level. Sure, there's no evidence that 'hate crime' legislation actually deters crime (seeing as how assault, murder and the like are already illegal) and labeling a murder a 'hate crime' is certainly not going to dissuade a hell-bent fanatic from killing but who needs that dusty boring obsolete double-jeopardy protection? Only women do.

and a predictable array of responses along the lines of "women are just as bad as men."

OMG, yes, women are no different from men when it is necessary to say so, but way awesomer than Those Bastards the rest of the time.

be it in objectification by the media, prostitution, or, for example, the revival of pink toys and clothes for girls.

Don't you mean "sex work", Zoe? And how do pink toys lead to girls getting murdered exactly?

FFS. What a mixed-up over-emotional feminist twit.

"femicides"? really? So that means more than 4 out of 5 homicides are actually "masculicides" then? Or is this another one of those areas men do not exist?

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, those are just boring plain vanilla murders which do not matter. Murder Lite or Murder Junior. Or perhaps the victims are Less Dead. But Femicides (heh) are Premium Victim Extra-Murdery Murders OMG Everyone Scream Now where the victims are Super Dead+.

A Femicide is Murder Extreme!

Violence against women is a crime under international law

[–]fengpi 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It's not enough to have stuff like assault or murder be illegal. No no no. We need to create a extra-super-duper category of crime to make assault against women super-special-illegal. So that women can feel extra-especially-protected despite them being at a lower risk of being murdered. Because equality.

Women: So strong and equal to men they need extra laws.

By the way, women can be charged with crimes against women in the UK as well. isn't that hilarious?

That sounds like a misogynistic attempt to control women. Because everything always is.

By the way: here's one thing about 'hate crimes' that bugs me...

Originally, they were intended because local police were often failing to go-after racist crimes, like in little podunk southern US towns where the police chief was a KKK grand wizard or something.

Today, not even hate crimes' expansion's most enthusiastic advocates claim that local police is failing to enforce the law; they simply want certain groups to feel extra specially protected when there is no evidence that such laws actually prevent such crimes from happening. But the feminists are the worst of them all-- they go straight down the rabbit hole to claim all crimes against women are hate crimes-- without evidence, they simply know that to be true-- and basically wish to do an end-run around double-jeopardy protection. If they'd gotten their way, the accused in the Duke Lacrosse rape hoax would've been put on trial again in federal court because hiring a stripper or even telling a dirty joke would've been "evidence" of misogyny. Phooey.

I view it a lot like age of consent or war on drugs. AoC was ostensibly to go after prostitution (reference: Suffragette Purity Movement). War on drugs was ostensibly to shut down violent crime. Neither solved either.

The state is fine and happy with ever expanding laws a person can break, because that means more prison time, and excessive prison time is used as a cudgel to coerce, really coerce, confessions, even false ones, from arrested detainees and secure high conviction rates. There's also the little bit about the self-interest of having "money farms" in inmates.

The idea of hate crimes to make police do their job is nonsensical. What they really needed to do was fire/punish failure officers and retrain those who are not completely inept.

Crimen majestatis

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Use of the Male Gaze should be a capital crime, carried-out by shooting a flame-thrower into the evildoer's face.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah, acid, its only fitting.

[–]Proteus_Marius 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As is violence against men.

[–]Cant_Ban_All_MRAs 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Care to back that up with a citation?

[–]Proteus_Marius 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No.

Obviously, the EU and Britain are focused far more on women's issues, but to suggest that violence against men is somehow not a crime is absurd.

[–]Cant_Ban_All_MRAs 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are being deliberately obtuse; /u/Satansyngel did not say that - you did.

Let me spell it out for you:

international humanitarian law ensures that women are protected through a two-tiered approach, being covered by general (equal protection as men) and specific protections. IHL mandates special protections to women

This is not a question of focus. These are extra rights and protections that are given to women solely on the basis of their sex.

Actual equality for women would be many steps backward for them in many areas.

No, my reply was simply literal, and it was made on the theory that misstatements should be alerted or challenged because what we say is important.

[–]warspite88 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

im okay with this as long as whenever a woman kills a man or boy or boy fetus its a hate crime

[–]double-happiness 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The force now defines misogynistic hate crimes as incidents including "behaviour targeted towards a woman by men simply because they are a woman"—a classification it hopes will encourage women to report abuse or harassment that might not typically be considered a crime.

Man offers to buy a woman a drink in a nightclub. Behaviour was clearly targeted by gender because "victim" was a woman. Ergo, man has committed a misogynistic hate crime.

[–]Techiastronamo 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And if women kill men it's "self defence".
