Got to love it.

First the feminist do everything to undermine marriage and make it a terrible deal for men. Then they blame men for not committing to marriage.

Rethinking the marriage wage premium

That married men are under significantly more pressure to produce earnings than unmarried men is something nearly universally understood, yet when the topic of the marriage earnings “premium” comes up this basic fact is somehow overlooked. This comes from the all too common interaction between the feminist and conservative viewpoints. Feminists view marriage as enslaving women, and are generally reluctant to acknowledge the efforts of husbands. The posture of conservatives however is less intuitive, but they also tend to greatly downplay the sacrifice of husbands. This flows out of the chivalrous view of conservatives, where men taking credit for their sacrifices is seen as in poor form.

"Research" by pro-marriage group shows that marriage is great - who would have thought! Yea, the research they do is almost always biased and based on surveys or polls with leading questions. "Social science" isn't science. I wish they would stop claiming they are. They're results are almost never replicable.

I don't think men overlook those benefits. It's just that the more thoughtful among us also do not overlook the huge drawbacks, and realize that marriage and all that goes with it is 100% optional.

from more money and a better sex life to significantly better physical and mental health.

They actually believe this don't they? Not only is reality actually opposite for most people where the sex life goes down or non-existent and money goes out the window depending on the size of the family or what the spouse is like but there's the whole shit of family court and the way courts deal with alimony for the wife if they decide to have a divorce.

It's an absolute load of shit and I don't think traditionalists realise what horrors they're pushing onto younger generations who may very well not be ready for such a move especially given how much difficulty my current generation and younger are having with simply getting employed and independent due to a broken education system.

We need to be very careful now that the left and feminists are losing that we don't end up simply empowering the traditionalist right because both sides are self-righteous social engineers that want to tell us all how to live.

I think it was 10 years ago when saw an article that was brave enough to really show the numbers: never married men, married men, divorced men.

When you compared never married men to the average between married/divorced men (given the near 50% rate of divorce) you found that marriage increased your risk of suicide, made you live shorter, decreased your income....

Yeah, being married is better than being single as far as a lot of things go. But being divorced is so much worse that it brings the numbers down below staying single.

They're trying very hard to spin this as a positive, but the basic message is that marriage "transforms men's behavior" because they're under pressure to earn more. In fact:

Our research, featured in a recent report, “For Richer, For Poorer: How Family Structures Economic Success in America,” indicates that men who are married work about 400 hours more per year than their single peers with equivalent backgrounds. They also work more strategically: one Harvard study found that married men were much less likely than their single peers to quit their current job unless they had lined up another job.

Wage premium? Yes, because married men work MORE THAN AN EXTRA HOUR A FUCKING DAY ON AVERAGE. 400 hours is more than two fucking months of a 40 hour work week. And statistically while they may make more money, they're also providing the majority of the household's income. And the average cost of raising a child to age 18 is about 250 grand: per year, that consumes MOST of the "marriage premium."

Oh, and that's assuming that the marriage is stable. Don't forget that a significant portion of marriages break up, which leaves the man without any of the emotional support, but still paying the financial cost via alimony and child support.

they listed a bunch of stats that seemed to suggest that it was wealthier men who got married, not that married men became wealthier, then at the end, they "addressed" my concern as a reader. by saying "oh just believe us that marriage makes you happier"
