FYI, if you break up with a woman you are required to still be at her beck and call, answer texts, calls, and the doorbell. Ending all contact is simply unacceptable.

According to the woman writing the article:

So let's get this straight - for four years he keeps asking and asking and asking her to get married, but every time she makes it clear she thinks something better is going to come along, so she keeps blowing him off.

So he gives it - and her - up as a bad job. What exactly is her beef here? What did she expect? What more could she possibly want from a guy she below off year after year?

Ghosting, put simply, is a form of extreme break-up where rather than trying to come to an amicable conclusion, amidst arguing over your CD collection, you instead cut all contact.

She didn't say ending all contact is simply unacceptable. Is there some reason you felt the need to misrepresent her? Did you think, perhaps, dealing head on with the rather more subtle point she was making would be too hard?

Honestly? I ghosted a 5 year relationship. I thought we were going to marry. She was the best friend and only love I've ever had.

But in the 5th year of our relationship, things started to change and I'm still not sure why. We were in line once arguing over nothing and she screamed at me "you're so fucking unattractive I don't even want to have sex with you!" She began to degrade and insult me regularly. She physically struck me several times on one occasion, uninvited me to her family events cause she didn't like something I had said (it was about myself, nothing wrong with it). Would tell me "I fucking HATE you". This went on for months. So when she sent me this text message one day telling me how immature I am and that she "deserved better" (I was an awesome boyfriend to her) I didn't reply. I wasn't sure how to even talk to her at that point. And neither of us reached out until after 8 weeks of contemplation I reached out to her. She was already dating some guy. Months later I was getting texts telling me how good we had been and why did this happen and yadi ya.

I still think about it every now and again.

Ghosting is something I am on the fence with. I can see it as a necessary evil in a world where we completely plugged in and have multiple Avenues of communication. However, I do not think that every situation (including the one the author talks about) deserves ghosting. If you just want out of the relationship the other person deserves to Know. You owe them that as a human being. But if they do something reprehensible then I can understand the ghosting thing.

the article says nothing of the sort OP. It's saying that after 4 years together, try to act like an adult and be respectful of your partner's feelings rather than just breaking up over an 8 second phone call and then ghosting them
