True, but another big one is men not even having the right to know he has a child.

In the USA at least, if a woman gets pregnant by a boyfriend who is now an ex or something along those lines and is no longer in her life, she's under no obligation to even tell him once she gives birth. He has no right to know he has a child. She can adopt it out or keep it and he might never have a clue.

If she knows who the father is or might be, they should absolutely have the right to be informed. Unless of course she's afraid for her life or something because of abuse, but that wouldn't be the vast majority of cases.

I find it abhorent that a man should be forced to raise or pay for another man's bastard child.

Paternity Fraud as a Violation of Men’s Reproductive Rights?

What reproductive rights?

That's a serious question, what reproductive rights are we supposing men have that paternity fraud violates?

[–]dakru[S] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm suggesting that being given the choice as to whether you want to raise/support a child you aren't biologically related to should be considered a reproductive right for men (and deceiving or forcing a man to raise/support such a child does not give him a choice, and so it would be a violation of his reproductive rights). This does not seem outlandish at all to me, considering that things like affordable contraception, available sex education, etc. are often considered reproductive rights.

However, if you're uncomfortable with the term "rights" here then that's fine. I'd just say then that we should take the problem of paternity fraud more seriously.

Is that a rhetorical question or genuine?

[–]Lrellok 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A variant on my right to mental, emotional, and physical autonomy as it relates to socially imposed obligations in relation to offspring. Specificly it refers to my determination that I am mentally, emotionally and physically capable of caring for another person, and that I and I alone get to make that determination. Physically capable includes financialy capable, as most male jobs require physical work.
