TL;DR: man gets played like a fiddle, pays for 17k ring and 85k mortgage within 3 months of meeting woman.

And then gets dumped.

Woman claims 'abuse', judges finds "that it is not obvious that the gift carried with it the implied term that it was intended to be revocable if the marriage did not take place.”

If you must get married, despite all the evidence that it has become the worst idea you could ever have, buy her a cubic zirconia ring. She won't know until she divorces you and tries to sell it. You'll have a good chuckle imagining the horror on her face. She might even get arrested for attempted fraud! LOL

Isn't the purpose of an engagement ring to signify your intentions to commit? If you're not going to marry anymore then wouldn't the right thing be returned to the person who gave it to you??
