Emojis are srs bsns apparently.

IME, women use them WAY more than men online anyway. Who cares.

Interesting article, but so what if they added a few female emojis? As long as they're not adding them at the expense of male ones, I don't see the issue.

In fact, the article mentions that they specifically added a few male ones as well, so sounds good all around to me.

Sounds fantastic! We could have a male nurse, a man changing a diaper, a man reading to small children - so many good things!

For fucks sake...

Actually, there's nothing wrong with adding them in replace of male ones. There's only so many characters you can use so I don't understand why people have an issue with splitting the extra emogis with female emogis.

Imagine being such a cunt that you care about "bringing the equality conversation to emojis."

If you are over the age of 16, please don't use emojis. It's embarrassing.

There is no truth to the rumor that emojis are in limited supply and restricted to women. Google can give women as many emojis as they want.

We recognize that gender identity is not fully defined by this binary and that we can do better to represent a more inclusive gender spectrum.

Get fucked. I don't care which unicorn-genders people claim to have, they are born either male or female. There's no person who was born as a biological gender-fluid, non-binary, demi-girl, agender and whatnot. Penis or vagina. You've got two options. Intersex is a thing, but they too look like normal people.

There's no way you can represent special snowflakes better. Some people look more "traditionally" male or female, some are more androgynous, but they're all either male or female biologically.

well, they kinda fuck themselves in the ass by actually talking about the emoji's as male and female. If they would just pretend they are not a specific gender and then people just choose wich they think represent them better.

As someone who doesn't know me, do you think you're in a position to assume that my gender and biological sex are totally compatible? Also, go ahead and explain to me how we're going to include agender, bi-gender, gender-fluid, intersex, non-binary and whatnot people in the realm of emojis. How are we going to distinguish them from cis men and women? What special feature do agender, bi-gender, etc. have, that cis people don't? Who's to say that there aren't agender or even transexual emojis already? How do you tell them all apart?

[–]thehenkan 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They want to make female emoji, but they shouldn't contain anything that is culturally feminine? I get what they're going for, but it's a tiny cartoon image! When the only thing left separating the male and female emoji are boobs (remember, hair is also just a stereotype), the need for gendered emoji doesn't really seem to be that huge.

[–]manfred_mannlicher 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually found this interesting, but what a thing to spend your time and money doing. Yes, let's have people commiserating around the world for a year across dozens of companies so that we can make little tiny pictures on our phones more representative of humanity. That they are now obsessing on how to represent Trans people via emojis is frankly hilarious to me. How the hell are you supposed to represent trans people to any degree of accuracy in an emoji? It's not like they have identifying features that are so substantially different than bio males or females that you could tell them apart in an emoji.

It's because men have better things to worry about than emojis.

Pretty sure most people don't care about which gender has more emojis. Mostly women and teenagers use them anyway so who cares? Being underrepresented in a selection of emojis will literally affect no one.
