Oh fer cryin out loud. According to these idiots, whenever women fail it's someone else's fault. Whenever they succeed, it's because they're awesomer than the menz and worked twice as hard as the menz and couldn't be held back by the evil forces of Patriarchy.

The concept of the glass cliff was coined in 2005 by two professors at Exeter University, in England. The researchers, Michelle Ryan and Alexander Haslam, challenged a report that suggested that when companies in the FTSE 100, Britain’s benchmark stock index, appointed women to their boards, share prices often suffered.

What Ms. Ryan and Mr. Haslam found was that women were more likely to be appointed in times of crisis — and therefore more likely to fail. Subsequent studies of Fortune 500 companies confirmed the trend.

Correlation is not causation. Just like when numerous studies during 2007 financial crisis years found that companies with female board members performed better. Completely ignored in popular analyses was the fact that women cluster at larger, more established firms which have more conservative management and which fare better in economic downturns.
