the "laws aren't accurate" ... uhh .. ?? I don't even understand what that's supposed to mean.

You cannot give consent at 13 , that's why I am telling you to read about AGE OF CONSENT and what that actually means instead of just spouting off about your OPINION on how you feel laws SHOULD BE and what things SHOULD BE CALLED ..

I am simply explaining to you the reality of the situation I am not injecting my opinion.

A 12 year old can tell you all day they want to have sex, they can verbalize consent.. but the LAW (I'm from the USA) states that if you are under the age of consent, you are NOT ABLE TO GIVE CONSENT .. No matter what! That is what I am trying to explain to you and you seem to be having an argument with yourself about morals and semantics and so forth.

If your 13-year-old daughter was being fucked by a man who is as old as the teacher in this case was, would you feel differently? I realize it was a boy in this case. But, you just said that 14 years for sex with a minor is extreme, whether the perpetrator was male or female. Do you feel the same about the gender of the victim? Not necessarily relevant, just curious. If you wouldn't, is it not a little hypocritical because "dudes just want sex, regardless of age, and therefore age 13 is consensual because, hey, he's a dude and simply WANTED to have sex, amiright?" And, girls are more delicate and deserve protecting from predators? Don't boys deserve the same?

I get what you're saying. But, the age of consent is what it is for a reason. And, all I can say is that, if your 13-year-old son or daughter is getting worked over by an adult closer to your age than your child's - even if your kid tells you, "Dad, I WANTED to have sex with that grown man/woman who can't seem to find anyone their own age to fuck" - you may feel a little differently. Having a family member who was involved in a case like this and having my own child, I am a real big fan of the age of consent and - this is just my personal opinion - you won't ever hear me say to a judge, "Please, go a little easier on the man who slept with my 13-year-old daughter. She said she WANTED to have sex with him! :DDDD"

Sex for a minor is much more of a big deal than it is to an adult who's been around the block a thousand times and looks at sex casually. I am sorry for a huge text wall. Just wanted to present some other views, as well as hear more about yours.

The age of consent means that even if the 13 year old says "yes please", they cannot legally give consent. So the teacher saying "he consented" does not matter... It was legally non-consensual. You are entitled to your opinion on whether 14 years seems too harsh, or too leniant.... But calling it "completely consensual" is a complete misunderstanding of legal consent. If a 4 year old said "I want to have sex" I think you'd agree (even just using common sense) that does not count as consent. This teacher knew that the same applied to 13 year old. Even if common sense can't be used (cuz you can argue some 13 year olds are quite mature), the teacher knows that legally the boy couldn't consent, and is now having to suffer the consequences. What makes it worse is that she was in a role of guardianship, as a teacher, and is the person in the relationship who is responsible for nurturing the kids, and she destroyed the trust placed in her by the school, community, parents, etc.

All that aside.... The reason it's in this sub is that it's not uncommon for men to be jailed for this, but it's a lot less common to see women punished at a similar level.

Edit: I don't really hate women, like my flair says... A dickhead MOD is punishing me for defending women in a different post.

1) those things are irrelevant because that isn't at all what we were talking about, why even bring it up? I mean, if they did those things illegally with the help of an adult I wouldn't say the adult deserves 14 years in prison

2) I said it was still wrong and gross multiple times, just that 14 years of prison is way too harsh of a sentence for what happened no matter the gender. Maybe something like, 2 or 3, IDK. 14 would work if they actually raped them, I don't consider someone sexting back and forth enthusiastically to be rape

3) saying 'BUT THE LAAAAAW SAYS' doesn't mean anything. There's plenty of laws that need to be fixed and this is one of them

4) you can be sexually mature at 13, it was only very recently in history that it became taboo. It's still wrong to have sex with one because they aren't emotionally mature but if they want to and are enthusiastic and reciprocating like in this situation, then 14 years in prison is way too much.

I disagree.... At 13 I was completely inexperienced with girls and sex. Learning about girls, and making out, and fumbling, and sex throughout my late teens was a vital part of my emotional and sexual development. This 34 year old teacher took that away from this kid. She was in a position of trust and authority. Even if the kid was a typical horny teenager and thought this was awesome, he didn't have the knowledge or experience to know what he was missing out on, and he doesn't realise how emotionally undeveloped he still was. (I remember thinking I was sooo mature when I was 13.... But I was really still a child).

This grown woman, had sex with a child who could not legally consent, and she potentially took away a part of his sexual development by experimenting with girls his own age that he will never get back.

And the truth is, you have no idea how a relationship like this will affect him in later life. 13 is still very young, and still developing personalities and relationships with society and people around them. Maybe he is fine and it was just fun sex. Or maybe his relationships with all future women will be different than they otherwise should have been.
