I agree Justin!

Most homeless people are men so it's clear poverty is sexist toward men.

That's what you were going for, right?

Give that speech at the men's homeless shelter.

As a Canadian I am really starting to get fed up with Trudeau's sexist approach to things. Last time it was not granting single Syrian males refugee status. I wanted him to win but now he going full on feminazi

You couldn't see this coming ? Seriously ? I and many others called him out for what he was the minute he announced he was going for the job. He's an SJW who desperately wants to outdo his father in terms of legacy by listening exclusively to the whiniest %5 of the population. He only got the job because of his father and his looks. Now he says poverty is sexist. He also insisted on stacking his cabinet with fifty percent women because, hey man, it's 2016 and even if the party isn't %50 women we still have to mess with the numbers.

Now, outside of Canada I would argue that women do definitely suffer more from the effects of poverty in terms of sheer numbers. On the other hand, the poor men who don't get counted in this sort of shit are stuck carrying machine guns and and running drugs.

You can rest assured that there will be much more punishment coming for males in the near future.

Last time it was not granting single Syrian males refugee status

I'm not sure it's a good idea to be equitable when it comes to immigration, especially when the migrants in question are refugees. IMO it makes sense to only accept female refugees because men integrate much more poorly than do women as it is and on top of that, when an entire refugee community has the opportunity to find partners within its own people you lose a huge incentive to join the surrounding community.

A life saved is a life saved and I believe that when only a portion of the applicants can be accepted there's an obligation to ensure that the portion accepted are those who will most benefit the receiving community.

It's hilarious how some supposed defenders of men revert to the basest tribal dismissal of other mens' concerns. "Foreign women are to be incorporated into my tribe to swell its numbers, but they must mate with our males. Foreign males will not be accepted in the tribe, they will mate with their women if given the chance!".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The concern is that with no incentive to integrate it will never happen.

Would you prefer we look like Europe right now? Im not a fan of Trudeau but honestly this wasn't a bad compromise.

[–]2gudfou 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that's not fair, you can't draw parallels to countries that have vastly different refugee vetting processes. Not to mention we do not share a land mass nor has the USA had such a problem despite accepting single male refugees (granted most have been families).

[–]YuenHsiaoTieng 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indefensible. Working class men have always been stuck in the glass cellar. With the current graduation rate gender gap, the ranks of the poor are only going to get more male dominated.

Also, if you have 0 income, you're not considered to be in poverty, so you get to remove the majority male homeless people as well.

Taking /u/chocoboat's (very helpful) explanation into account, the philosophy behind this isn't unreasonable. That said, saying "Poverty is sexist" is a bad idea, and not because I personally care one way or the other.

But it just sounds ridiculous. What he really means is that "Treatment of the poor" or "expectations on the poor" are sexist. But people will hear "poverty is sexist", and "climate change is sexist", and "mental illness is sexist", and begin just tuning these statements out as "oh, the liberals are saying some random thing they don't like is sexist again, what a shocker".

Then when something that is actually sexist comes along (i.e. Donald Trump), they can call it sexist all they want and people just go "oh, the liberals calling something they don't like sexist again, what a shock". The word has lost all its meaning and no one cares. They've done the same thing with racism, xenophobia, etc. to the point that Donald Trump as POTUS is now a real possibility. And statements like this are to blame.

[–]chocoboat 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Couldn't agree more.

[–]jeff_the_nurse 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly--the overwhelming majority of those in poverty or homeless are male.

[–]Jordioa18 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Trudeau, if you're ignoring the majority of homeless people (men), you're more sexist than poverty itself

[–]elebrin 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To people like him, I don't think they count as people.

[–]chocoboat 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is actually not the dumbest thing he's said. While poverty itself isn't sexist (it isn't a living thing), our human reactions to it can be.

In third world countries, the reaction is "no one's going to help you, it's everyone out for themselves". Men go out and do what they can to take care of themselves, but women are stuck with the children and don't have as many options or as much time available to find a way to provide for herself and the kids. Women and children suffer more than men do.

It's worth noting Trudeau was talking about these countries, and not about Canada.

In first world countries no one has it nearly that bad (thank goodness), but there's a different type of sexism. We have a weak social safety net for men, and a much stronger one for women. People in general are more willing to help women, especially if it's to help a woman have a place to stay in order to avoid being homeless. There are plenty of programs that are available to help women only.

The article bangs-on about increasing healthcare for women in Bangladesh.

And of course like most countries in the world, women live longer than men — 3 years longer in Bangladesh:

People in general are more willing to help women, especially if it's to help a woman have a place to stay in order to avoid being homeless.

Yet somehow you think this is limited to First World humans.
