No, really. Because women's participation in the workforce is barely 75% to men's 88+%.

The masculine work ethic is part of a social model that doesn't exist anymore. There's very little upside to being a salary man, but the cost hasn't changed.

I was talking to a coworker of mine about this last.

I teach in at a Japanese university and she was telling me that many Japanese men have lost their motivation and she asked me why.

My response (condensed, obviously) was that with women gaining equality (which if we assume true equality and not what I call preferential equality) women can then provide for themselves. If a woman can take care of her own needs, a man doesn't need to work so hard to provide for her.

"The Japanese work ethic is brutal. People work until 8:00 pm before leaving. Then get up early to go to work again. Plus weekend, and going out for drinks afterwork with your team. Who wants to do that? If women can provide for themselves? Great. It is less work for me to do. And if women want to work 12 hours a day and have no life, good for them. I'll take a less ambitious job and do my own thing."

Guys need to get with the program. Find a woman who makes more then you and marry her. Then make sure she keeps making more then you.

When you eventually lose your job, she can be the main income source.... and you can stop working.

At 4.9 percent, the nation's unemployment rate is half of what it was at the height of the Great Recession.

Because they dropped an entire category of people from the U-3 unemployment rate (not employed, not looking). U-6, the real unemployment rate is at 9.7%, which is higher than the rate prior to the so-called Great Recession.

I only point this out to establish that NPR, like most media outlets, primes you with one "technically true" foundation lie in order to set up for the outlandish shit they'll serve you later.

Tara Sinclair, chief economist for job-search site Indeed.com, says brawny jobs are being replaced by brainy ones, and that trend doesn't favor men.

Sinclair says if men keep exiting the workforce, that could strain the social safety net and hold back economic growth.

And here's the nugget. When the slaves (males) leave the plantation, willingly or not, the masters eventually feel it. One slave missing? Who cares? 100 slaves missing? Big fucking problem. Women, by themselves, cannot prop up the welfare-state or the debt-based economy with their makework, "administrative" jobs.

Once the bottom-line of those in power is threatened by the absence of males, expect action to be taken.
