Many dating sites ask height and income, to make it easier for women to objectify men. It is commonplace, as well, for a woman 5' (152cm) to state, "Don't bother contacting me if you're under 6' (182cm)."
Even worse, when mentioned, every woman I know justifies all this, refuses to admit it objectification of men, and refuses any analogy with a dating site's hypothetical inclusion of women's breast size.

Men also contribute to the problem; men who meet the requisite height or income demands show no solidarity with other males; rather, their attitude is, I got mine, screw the other guys.

The imposition of heightism is just one of the many results of greater female solidarity (as shown scientifically by the Rutgers-Purdue study).

By almost every definition it is.

But that offends people's feelings so let's twist arms or simply wave our hands and say "so what?"

Being short is the easiest way to see that "equality" in this society is something people only want when it helps them. It's impossible to see any "progressive" ideals as an actual march toward progress when the people involved are so caustically concerned with hyper-superficial traits.

yes... it absolutely is... I have frequently heard women say they won't date men that are shorter than them usually accompanied with comments about "short man syndrome"... I never gave it much thought when I was younger because I am 6'3" and so it always worked to my advantage. I have never once heard a man say they wouldn't date a girl because of their height... not once... even my best friend in high school who was 6'7" would have dated a girl that was 4'11" if he liked her. thats not to say they wouldn't make comments about a girls height, just that they wouldn't choose not to date her because of it.

Of course. These days anyone who makes a comment on a woman's weight is automatically a bad bastard. If a person's fat, then more likely than not, it's their own fault. No one chooses their height, though.

If you mean it's a by-product of a very much gendered evolutionary process, and women in their great majority are attracted to perceived provider / protector traits, well, yeah, it's emergent discrimination.

When a large enough subset of a population shares the same taste, it looks from the outside like a concerted effort to discriminate against part of the target population.

Then again, each and every woman has the right to prefer tall blokes.

I mean, so do I. Not tall blokes, but I like boobs. So, well, personal taste, I discriminate against flat chests. But only where boobs are required. No incidence on work, for example.

If you're thinking about gendered stereotypes associated with maleness and height, namely the 'short guy syndrom', it's very much sexism.

But, so what?

I've had it thrown at me (I'm very much average, more so than most people), and well, don't care.

When I feel like being offensive, I just invoke the 'curves in all the wrong places syndrom', 'beggars can't be choosers', or simply point out the speaker is probably butthurt that even a close-to-short guy won't sexualise her in any way.

Remember, women are insecure, and in permanent competition with one another. Single one out as unattractive, she often won't get any support from her peers.

As for what women say? Please, most of the times, it's just noise. I've dated taller women, who had sworn I was too short for anything to happen.

Is it sexist to prefer that a man be a certain height? Not exactly, it would be "heightist" if anything.

Is it sexism against men for society to shun men for having preferences when it comes to females, but applauding and encouraging women who have preferences when it comes to men's height? Absolutely.

I believe this comparison is what you were ultimately asking about; the hypocrisy of Feminists and just plain old everyday people for considering men shallow for having preferences, but not seeing a damn problem with women having preferences. That's a social inequality that men face right there.

I'm in the disagreement camp. Women like taller men because of what millennia of evolution has decreed.

Taller men make women feel safer than shorter men. It's in their genes and I personally don't think that that's something that we can or should hold against them.

As men, we shouldn't try to force agendas to try to make them feel bad about what their instincts drive them to like.

We can't control attraction. If you are a shorter man, go for women shorter than you. You can't change the genetic cards that you were dealt so play the hand that you were dealt. Win or lose.

Discriminate on weight and you are fat shaming. Change one letter and you are just expressing a preference.
