I think that in some instances we really need to look at cases where the crime could stem from mental illness. In this case she committed neonaticide (killing the child within first 24 hours of birth). There is usually a very specific pattern and psyche profile. I don't know the specifics in this case and it said she wasn't remorseful but it may have been true justice if she got clinical help instead of prison. I wouldn't see it as a pussy pass.

Having said that, more than half of our male inmates have mental illnesses and I would argue many don't belong in a prison. But of course politicians get hired on being tougher on crime. And of course the societal depiction of men is that men=evil.
