Boxing with your Son is a good idea!

Using boxing as a punishment for skipping school...bad idea.

If he gave his son a bloody nose and cut lip while sparing, no problem that is not abusive. It is literally part of the sport. But as punishment that line is to fine and to easy to cross from punishment to abuse. And from the force behind some of those hits...he crossed that line.

All current scientific evidence suggests that physically punishing your children does long-lasting psychological damage to them.

i agree with the Idea he was trying to convey, and i agree with the method, however he takes it too far when he moves from education to punishment. he personalized it far to much, from gloating about his child's blood on the wall, to the "stop crying".

He goes beyond trying to communicate and educate his son at first to just battering him - which to a point is needed some times. However that is a point he shouldn't have crossed. i honestly think that this is an important lesson for any son to learn, but he definitely went too far. he obviously starts off pulling his punches, but part way through, he stops and starts hitting him with the full force of his blows, which is pretty damn considerable given his size comparative to his sons size.

physical confrontations in life as a male are practically inevitable. you need to know how to defend yourself. i agree with him teaching his son how to box (and he obviously knows the basics of guarding and footwork, though its at amateur level)
If you are going to Screw up your education, you are bound for a hard life, one that is going to beat him far worse than what his father did. i think that is incredibly important to get across.
Ridiculing him for crying despite him not just sitting there and taking the beating was wrong. his son did admirably by not just taking his beating well, but also trying to defend himself against a man twice his weight and build.

TL/DR: its how i would parent, but i wouldn't have gone so hard and to the extremes he went with it. with in school fighting being punished so harshly these days, this is the only avenue the child has to learn harsh lessons like this.

Dad's got the right idea. I disagree with his form of executing his idea. Violence shouldn't be used as a punishment, in my opinion.

However, to take his kid and put the gloves on and box like that - many more should do it.

That being said, he's not in the same world I am, maybe this works better for the environment they have. I don't think the state's intervention was right in this case.
