Well, of course yes. Erin Pizzey has been trying to explain this since at least 1971 - see here where she explains:

I had been expelled from the newly emerging Women’s Liberation Movement as, from the beginning, I denounced it as fraudulent for deluding desperate women across the country into parting with [a significant amount of money] to join a movement which promised to devote itself to the betterment of women everywhere [but whose] main ambition was to re-educate women into believing that the family was a dangerous place for women and children ...

All Revolutionaries feel entitled to draw on the resources of the State in their justified struggle to dismantle it from within. Just look at the following statements and tell me what kind of person you think made them:

"I'm more interested in asking the question why so many men assume that they have a birthright to buy and sell the bodies of women, young men and children.”

“I believe [prostitution] is a symptom of a patriarchal and unequal society. […] a society that is scarred by the masculinization of power and wealth”

"It is right to have nervousness and cautiousness around giving more power to a state that is inherently capitalist and patriarchal”

"I live in the real world and until the Revolution, I want the law to make positive changes for women. I don't want women to be commodified as goods for sale.”

Does that sound completely reasonable at all? No? Would you expect these to be the kind of statements made by someone with a very particular - some might say extreme - political agenda? Would you expect this kind of thing to come out of the mouth of some crazy cat lady living in a trailer park with her kittens and howling at the moon?

These were in fact made by a Senior Lecturer in Sociology, now at the University of West of England, but at the time she made these statements she was working at the Centre for Gender and Violence Research at the University of Bristol.

In case that sounds reasonable - I mean, women really are abused by partners in the real world (and this was one reason why Pizzey set up a refuge in 1971) - look at what the centre says about itself (my emphasis):

Developing out of the Women’s Liberation Movement, the [Domestic Violence Research Group (DVRG)] had particularly close relationships with the Women’s Aid Federation of England … Basing itself on a gendered analysis of violence, the Group conducted wide-ranging high quality research, while still retaining an activist commitment to raising, wherever possible, the voices of abused women and their children.

The centre’s website also quotes one of its own students who says enthusiastically (my emphasis):

"The links to practice and activism are especially important to me - this group really is committed to undertaking research that matters and to making a difference for women and children locally, nationally and globally."

This is government money - I don’t know how much but I would guess at least a million or more - being poured into the direct funding of political activism for a radical revolutionary left wing politics disguised as academic research into gender-based violence perpetrated by men against women.

Is there anything even close to this in other faculties?

I’m not aware of GSK or Pfizer or whoever insisting that grant money donated to scientific research can only be given to universities on condition that they support activism on behalf of the Libertarian or Austrian school Economic ideas - are you?

This is absolute fucking bullshit that someone who believes earnestly that we live in "a patriarchal and unequal society. […] a society that is scarred by the masculinization of power and wealth” should be funded by government to undertake activism just because they’ve found some wanky way of describing it that makes it sound like “high-quality research”.

How do they keep getting away with it? (That’s a rhetorical question btw)
