I'm sure Feminist organizations are outraged and doing everything they can to stop this...because they stand up for men as well.

I'll go ahead an hold my breath and wait for them. I expect to die.

[–]manicmonkeys 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Any moment now, they'll be all over this outrageous objectification!

[–]Lord_ThunderCunt 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

53 minutes? You dead.

[–]Lethn 30 points31 points32 points 10 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

And I thought I had weird fetishes, that is actually pretty creepy, not because of the context, but because they're clearly taking photos without their knowledge.

[–]morerokk 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

It's also illegal in certain jurisdictions. It's certainly not allowed in Europe.

[–]Wargame4life 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

You can take photos of someone in public place as much as you want, although publishing and profiting i think it becomes more complex

[–]pocketknifeMT 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

You can take a picture in that you taking a picture of the subway car is fine.

If you are taking a picture with a person as the focus, you need them to sign a release, since they are the focus.

[+]Wargame4life -15 points-14 points-13 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

nope you are completely wrong, in a public place you can take any picture of any individual you wish in the UK (which is in the EU) with some small terrorist related exceptions.

I could take a photo of you on a train of just your face and there is nothing you can do about it at all. I don't need you to sign anything at all.

[–]pocketknifeMT 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

No, I am not.

And if you wanted your retort to be effective, you should have actually backed up your claim, especially since cursory research will reveal your mistake.

Like so:

Oh, look several sources saying I am correct:

Getty Images

The American Society of Media Photographers

Rocket Lawyer explaining the associated legal concepts.

And bonus for the UK, since you brought that up: Amauturephotographer.co.uk

[+]Wargame4life -16 points-15 points-14 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Jesus christ you are a fully certified moron not only do you think the "American society for Media photographers" has relevancy wrt to the EU, you seem to be so fucking stupid you dont know the difference between taking and publishing a photo for profit.

You are simply an idiot who cant even follow a conversation let alone has a pov of any merit.

[–]pocketknifeMT 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

  1. This book is published in the US, by Simon & Schuster so the UK is irrelevant.

  2. This book is being sold, it is a commercial enterprise. I don't understand how you can miss this.

  3. Regardless of the Nation, the rules are largely the same in this regard.

  4. You have still provided no evidence, just insults.

[+]Wargame4life -13 points-12 points-11 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Learn to read dickhead:

me:You can take photos of someone in public place as much as you want, although publishing and profiting i think it becomes more complex

you: If you are taking a picture with a person as the focus, you need them to sign a release, since they are the focus

me: in a public place you can take any picture of any individual you wish in the UK (which is in the EU) with some small terrorist related exceptions.

you: Oh, look several sources saying I am correct

in short you are a fucking idiot who cant even distinguish between taking a picture and publishing a picture and the EU and the US.

(the original comment i was replying to was regarding a comment about the EU moron)

[–]pocketknifeMT 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You know more insults just make you look unreasonable to bystanders, right?

This whole thread is predicated on the existence of a coffee table book, sold for money.

[–]Rethgil -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Don't know why this was voted down a it's a simple true fact. What the heck 'pocketknifeMT'? Looks like you misread the post then went batshit crazy. Not a female lurker here are you?! In the UK you don't need permission. That's all the above post stated as fact!

[–]pocketknifeMT 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If you are going to make a coffee table book out of the pictures and sell it, you absolutely need to get releases.

Also, you have a very weird definition for batshit crazy.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Er! You are the one claiming definitions about things that are clear facts that are incorrect. Or do you now admit you misread the post and haven't yet admitted so? No one said what you claimed they had, they only stated things about UK law on taking pictures in public-so will you FINALLY admit the poster who corrected you was RIGHT about that and stop trying to change the argument to issues over selling the pictures? Or are you going to continue with teenage tactics and fake naivete about your error? You've really been so childish in avoiding what you said incorrectly in previous posts here. Just own up to it man. Im starting to feel embarrassed for you.

[–]matthew_lane 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Actually that's not all that creepy on it's own, since it's exactly what street photographers do. No, the creepiness comes when you publish a book of these people, sell it on the sexiness of these people, all without their consent.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fair point.

[–]matthew_lane 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even as a photographer myself, who tried his hand at street photography before realizing it was not my cup of tea, it does still come off as a little creepy even when you are doing it. So I pretty much went back to shooting people & animals, with occasional forays into crime photography: Ironically the only time I've shot a naked person was when a guy climbed onto a billboard, got naked except for flip flops & a bumbag & waved a gun around.

Feel free to take a look at some of my other stuff.

[–]MalibuStayZ 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

but because they're clearly taking photos without their knowledge.

Well, the photos from the linked site are obviously posed.

Or are those only examples?

[–]Lethn 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Second one is obvious, but some of these are clearly just guys on a subway reading, so unless they've actually gotten them to pose like that themselves ( which they would say if they have ) some girl has gone and snapped these on her phone I suspect, either that, or a gay guy with a weird fetish lol.

I remember seeing something like this on TumblrinAction or something where some girl had gone and taken snapshots of her teacher without his knowledge making comments about him online. Of course the point of it being on TumblrInAction was that they were being their usual hypocritical selves by objectifying men and then complaining when it's done to them.

[–]MalibuStayZ 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But also the others I'd say. The fifth and sixth picture show the same guy. If you click on "Load more", you see more pictures of men reading the book "Hot dudes reading" or multiple pictures of the same guy. Some are clearly posed, so I'd assume that the others are too.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wait, doesn't this require a signed release from all the dudes pictured? And if so, did they get them?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"What would happen if the roles were reversed?"

Are you fucking kidding me right now? Dude /r/creepshots was taken down a long time ago for this exact reason. We know EXACTLY what happens when the roles are reversed.

[–]Jesus_Shaves_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is confusing. How are some women going to say in one breath 'I don't need a man I can buy my own food and drinks' and in the next tell them to 'use that card the way it was meant'.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If they didn't get permission from the men in their photos, that would be illegal right?

[–]matthew_lane 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For the purpose of commercial use, yes. They can be sued for it.

[–]matthew_lane 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, I can't wait till some of those guys sue the producers of the book since they have clearly not been asked to sign a model release form & this is clearly a for profit book sold on the basis of these men, given the books title.

[+][deleted] 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]Alkomb 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sue.

Oh, wait, that'd only work if you were a girl.:\

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Any guy in there should sue for use of his likeness.
