interesting that they are apparently sourcing that figure from the "VACS" surveys - i only find VACS reports for 8 countries; all of which are third world countries; mostly in Africa (with the notable exceptions of Haiti and Cambodia).

Seems like they are once again cherry picking worst case scenarios and trying to suggest that the findings are representative of the entire world. note: There IS a huge issue with children getting raped across some of these african countries at least partly due to some myths suggesting it can cure aids or prevent the spread of aids; Known as "The virgin cleansing myth"; a rather bizarre belief that sex with a virgin can cure disease so I'm not surprised to see a higher rate in some of these countries but this "25%" claim does not appear to be supported by the survey data that they themselves cited as the source.

according to this summary - http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6421a1.htm?s_cid=mm6421a1_w The overall percentage of "victims of any form of sexual violence before the age of 18" reported in most of these countries is well below "25%" suggesting that the claims of the article couldn't possibly be true - the ONLY country that came close to that rate was swaziland at "24%" and that doesn't clearly indicate whether it was "first sexual encounter".

I think this might be the key metric from the reports that they are misreading: from the report from cambodia I find this in the executive summary: "Among those who had sexual intercourse as a child, 1 in 4 females (24.2%) and 1 in 11 males (8.9%) aged 18 to 24 reported that the first incident of sexual intercourse was unwanted" - so that statistic is "24.2% of THOSE THAT HAD SEX AS A CHILD" - NOT "24.2% of the entire female population". That statistic is directly above another statistic showing that 4.4% of females reported any form of sexual violence prior to the age of 18. Just briefly skimming through the documents it seems highly likely that this is yet another example of an INTENTIONAL effort to distort the statistics to suit the "rape culture" myth.

That's because they've convinced people that convincing somebody else to sleep with you is rape. I mean honest to God every time I go to the store I get raped big time because everybody always convinces me to buy something I don't need. You know it's a real shame that articles like this get traction and that some people believe in them. I've had the dis fortunate pleasure of knowing several rape victims throughout my life. When they see things like this and hear things that these people actually consider rape they're actually insulted they feel belittled.

So this quite a number. It means the more than 1 in 4 women are raped. It means that 1 in 4 were raped when they lost their virginity. It means that probably like 4 in 1 women are actually raped. Incredible!

I just noticed something changed in the linked article above - What follows here is NOT the original text although parts of it remain;

According to Violence Against Children Surveys (VACS) in the United States, an estimated 11% of high school girls report that they have been raped, and VACS notes the majority of those rapes go unreported. VACS is the first national survey of its kind on the prevalence of emotional, physical and sexual violence against children developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Violence Prevention.

There are NO VACS REPORTS for the United States AT ALL. The linked article was clearly edited as it no longer contains the "25%" claim that was there a few days ago but now it's making yet another totally baseless claim supposedly bolstered by "VACS Reports" in countries that have not even been studied by any published vacs report. (link to the vacs site at the CDC provided below)

Seems like someone called out her obvious fabrications in the original post and she changed it but even after the change it still contains obvious false claims.
