Women and children first.

We mock the "won't someone think of the children!?" trope, but for the wrong reasons. The reality is that we don't really give a shit about children. If we did there would be massive campaigns highlighting the primary aggressors against children (women); we would immediately institute shared parenting and father's rights; and we would levy massive penalties against women who abuse or kill their children.

Since we don't do any of those things, I can only conclude that the "women and children" thing is a canard. To be blunt: this is about women using children as human shields to protect their own privilege. Sort of like Munchausen by Proxy, the most vile crime ever dreamt up by a human mind.

Season 1 of True Detective got it right:

Here's the reality:

Women >>>>>>>>>>>>>women's feelings >>>>>girls>>>>>>>>>>girl's feelings>>>>>>>>>>>>boys>>>>>>>>>>cats and dogs>parrots and other pretty birds>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>men.

Scary but true I think.

[–]mwobuddy 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats exactly what Ive always been saying.

The reality is that children have been used for propaganda purposes since the stone age. Politicians making laws, and women making a stink, always frame it as for the good of our children and their children, etc, but there's actually not much truth to it. Its some kind of weird social illusion where people pay lip service to it but don't really want to see it through, and are 100% supportive, like a lie everyone knows is a lie yet believes in.

Side note, True Detective season 1 is fucking amazing. Everyone should watch it.

At first I thought, that the negligent homicide is accurate in her case. It seemed that the girl really swallowed those drugs on her own. Then I started searching.

Lacey, a first-grader, had lethal levels of Benadryl, an over-the-counter medication, morphine and diazepam — the generic form of Valium — in her system, prosecutor Doreen Lloyd said during Dymes' arraignment before Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit.

Remember, Lacey was 6 year old first grader, few months from summer vacation! She died on 4/7/2015.

Carr was the one who discovered Dymes kneeling and unconscious near her dead daughter. Two handwritten suicide notes were found in the bedroom, prosecutors said.

Who wrote the second suicide note? The girl? A first grader writing a suicide note? Interesting. Let's say the mother wrote two for some reason.

Early that Sunday, Dymes sent Lacey's father a garbled text saying the child "took a pill," prosecutors said.

Seems like a woman of many words. Right?! And she did not overdose her?

And what did the father do that this woman got custody of Lacey?

Dymes is a registered nurse who has been the subject of professional misconduct cases twice. She is not currently registered with New York state.

She was suspended for three months in 2012 and placed on two years professional probation after she was convicted of driving while intoxicated, attempted false written statement and petty larceny, all misdemeanors, the state Office of Professional Discipline shows. In 2002, she was suspended for a year after admitting to diverting Demerol from the nursing home where she worked for her personal use, records show.

Carr's body was found in her mother's bedroom, along with Benadryl, generic Valium, morphine, oxycodone, and an open container of alcohol along with heroin hidden under the bed, they said.

Assuming the second note was intended to come from Lacey and the double suicide was planned by Dymes, then this is a case of murder-suicide where the suicide attempt failed.

The other possibility is Lacey sees that her mum is always taking pills and emulates this with drugs that were left out. Then Dymes realizes what Lacey's done and attempts suicide rather than calling an ambulance. In this case Dymes is guilty of criminal negligence/recklessness and manslaughter, but not murder. In this case the second note is perhaps from Lacey, but it seems unlikely as you said. Otherwise the second note is unexplained (perhaps a draft?).

Either way she should really be in jail, albeit not for as long in the second case.

I have a daughter about Lacey's age and this really hits hard. Just awful :/

The most shocking to me is the fact that Lacey was in her custody. Drug issues, DUI, stealing. What did that father do, to lose custody to such a woman? Was it really him, or the law favoring the mother no matter what?

[–]Revoran 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Either the father was unsuitable, or he didn't want custody, or he wanted custody but the biased family court system screwed him over.

Clearly Lacey would have been better off with pretty much anyone else.

So she planned and performed a double-suicide attempt, giving her daughter the concoction. Daughter dies, mother lives.

Is this a fair reflection of what happened, or am I missing something? If so, how is this not straight-forward murder?

I wonder what she cried about. The daughter? Her fear of going to jail? We'll never know sadly.

It says it was an accident so if a man did it it would be the same sentence if he didn't do it on purpose

[–]Sasha_ 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Accident my ass.

[+][deleted] -9 points-8 points-7 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

so if a man did it you would say 'accident my ass' as well.. ??

Women stay in prison for a long long time in some cases but every case is different so you can't just use these two cases to prove a point!!! I am a men's right supporter as well but women shouldn't get extra jail time just because men do or whatever - each case is a different story
