Ok so years ago she would have been right.

She isn't now because one good thing about the cretin, I mean feminist movement, being so publicly outspoken that women are equal to men is that under British law she will be viewed as capable as you are.

She might be able to take a certain amount from the value of the house but not as much as she thinks and certainly not as much as she's telling you.

Under British law you will both start from an equal footing, if you have a good lawyer, there will be a discovery phase in proceedings so that each party does not get the opportunity to cause hardship to the other through financial means but it has to be proportional and fair.

Meaning if the bulk of sunk costs into the property we're done by you, then you have right to higher return.

She can take a share of the property but she can also be held liable to a share of the debts accrued on the property also.

She might have access to a share of your pension however if you marry then that share passes to your true next of kin which would be your current wife not her.

The law will expect her to get a job, you might find that you have to support her financially for about two years but that is usually no more than the amount she would get from unemployment benefits, currently about £50 a week or something like that.

However you said she's been fiddling her books, I doubt she's been smart enough to do that job properly and you will of course have the option to bring that to the attention of your solicitor, and you should, if they find that she has been untruthful she will most likely get hammered by the courts.

This is for two reasons, the courts are generally easier to women than men, equality before the law except when there is a chance a woman will loose then they are all about traditional values, the court really dislikes it when they find a woman is lying because women don't lie, except when they are caught at it, this makes it embarrassing for the court and the law itself. Courts hate that and tend to come down hard, they see it as malicious intent to cause hardship to the other party, given it is she asking for the divorce they will also see it as her trying to swindle money and injudiciously using the court system to do it. The courts were set up to protect the injured party and provide restitution, justice, they are not an arm of vengeance, they don't like to be used in that way..

You need to find a lawyer who is a real shark, a real nasty piece of work somebody who would sell their own mother for a doughnut, a woman, a lawyer who would be ok making Florence nightingale look worse than Hitler, and let her go to work, follow their advice.

soak this in before you do anything else...she’s been planning this a long time.

she’s been turning the kids against you.

she’s not your friend.

get the best lawyer you can find that you trust in a war. start looking them up and ask your friends/family (especially ones that had a good divorce). lean on them for support as well.

if you do end up giving her 70% of the house, make sure it’s not for free.

If you know for certain she has fiddle her books, report her to HM Revenue and Customs and let them occupy her attention while you press for more favorable terms. Tell them you have only recently learned she has been cooking the books while you were examining financials in preparation for the divorce.

Share this information with any lawyers you speak with to see what advantage it may give you. Same reveal to a lawyer - you discovered she has been fiddling her number for years while preparing for divorce.
