I’m sorry, but this is more of a question for me. I don’t understand how women take being wives and mothers so seriously. What I mean is, men make it very clear, that isn’t as good as being like them. So why aren’t women becoming doctors, lawyers, astronomers, etc. Way back when, women didn’t want to vote. They were happy just to be wives and mothers and be political through their husbands. I don’t understand? They say we want equality, but are happy being just a housewife. Or not being drafted into the military.
Please help

I can only speak for myself when I say this, but a big part of how I can take my role as a wife and mother so seriously is due to my faith. As a Catholic, I believe marriage is a vocation and something God specifically gave to me. Motherhood of course stems from that. There is no higher calling for me, and I would be a fool to not take it as seriously as one would take any other career. Shaping the minds, hearts and souls of my children is serious work.
I’ve never heard this before? The men I know acknowledge women are different, but they have never said that it isn’t as good as being like them.
They are. I believe these fields are still male-dominated, but many women become the above professions and have the freedom to do so.
Women who have trustworthy, capable, loving husbands ARE content to take that position under him. It’s freeing and a wonderful way to live out marriage and life.
Plenty of women wanted to vote and they fought for that right. Some women didn’t and were content “staying in their lane” to focus on their families. Neither one is wrong.
Having read a lot of your posts (and I mean no offense when I say this), until you can see the value of a housewife and SAHM, it’s very easy to have this mindset. Housewives are not “less than.” We have ambitions, goals and aspirations. We have hobbies and interests, some of which I’m sure would truly surprise you. We are intelligent, thoughtful and have some very strong opinions on topics like politics, the world, technology, and history.
A lot of SAHMs are not content and look outside the home to fill that void either with clubs or a career, but there are many, many of us who find nothing but joy in being nurturing and caring for our husbands and children. I’ve had a career, and it in no way fulfilled me in the same way being a wife and mother does.
