Guy or girl, that's not a terribly unreasonable request.
If one is dating they will be looking for someone who is okay with them and their kids. I know people who wouldn't mind or would even happily have 5 more kids.
The more unreasonable part is that she wants it for free. If she offered to pay half or for herself and her kids or something, that would be much more reasonable. If she said something like she doesn't have the funds to go on a date, and you offered to take here but then she mentioned it would need to be here and her kids, that isn't unreasonable either.
You could have very easily said something not nearly as rude. Rather than saying she has 5 kids and isn't worth the hour drive, you could have said that you aren't comfortable with the fact that she already has 5 kids and aren't willing to spend the money to find out if they are something you could become comfortable with.
