If they are going to make gender neutral bathrooms, they should get rid of the women's only bathroom; why do women still require their own bathroom if men don't need one?

It sounds like what she's doing is probably illegal. Building codes explicitly require separate male and female facilities and specify how many of each are necessary; it's specified right in the North Carolina plumbing code.

If anyone has any complaints, they should direct them to the North Carolina Department of Insurance (Office of the State Fire Marshall), as they develop and enforce building codes.

Why not just oh I don't know make them both for anyone who needs them. Just put a restroom sign on the door and be done with it. Damn it's not that hard.

If they are both multi-stall then the woman's bathroom is the logical choice to make unisex because noone can 'see' anything with the door closed. If they are single stall (like a lot of small restaurants) then make both unisex. Simple, and caters to our cultural squeemishness about 'seeing' penises.

Devils Advocate: This is purely practical. They have a women's room for women, and a unisex-overflow for when the women inevitably clog up their room. Is it a perfect solution? nope, but it is cheap and efficient.

Same thing happens in airports. Women and "families" get bathrooms that are right next to each other. The "men's" bathroom entrance is 20 feet away.

Being a single man, or a man without children, makes you a predator. Being a family man makes you "slightly" more trustworthy, as you can take your child to use the "family" restrooms, located right next to women's restrooms.

There are lots of places here in Japan that have one women's room and one unisex room (no men's), so I'm used to it. But... that fucking note... grrrrr...

Many youth hostels all over the world have coed dorms and female dorms. They used to have male dorms, but they were phased out due to lack of demand. Males don't mind (and often prefer) a coed environment, but there are some females who don't like it.

Meh. Whatever. This is too minor, and done for reasonable reasons, to indulge in a victim complex about it. Men aren't barred from using the bathroom. I'll save my outrage for apocalyptic dropout rates, jaw dropping suicide rates, mind-bending workplace fatality rates, state sponsored finanacial slavery, and sentencing discrepancies, all while urinating in a toilet that a father with a young daughter can use.

There's a restaurant named C&O Trattoria in Marina Del Rey, CA. In this restaurant, there is a women's restroom and an unisex restroom. After experiencing this setup once, I'll have to be honest.....it didn't really bother me at all. Women generally take longer in restrooms, so it kind of evened out.

That being said, if there's a line of men waiting for the unisex restroom, a woman shouldn't have priority over both. That's just madly inconsiderate. I hope our society does not degrade to the point where we have to fight for our right to have equal restroom priorities with women.
