The idea in itself is brilliant...... In practice though combining it with VAWA is about as dangerous as it gets! The internet is filled with stories of men who have had false accusations of DV levied against them so the woman can get the upper hand in divorce proceedings or have her partner removed from the property by police, even where she is the violent one! This almost inevitably leads to plea deals being done from my understanding! Once a man has a record as violent this comes into effect - she can have a gun, he can't. What do we suppose happens next?? invitation to come round to sort things out maybe, followed by more violence leading to her shooting him in 'self defence' and walking scott free with everything and maybe even a handsome life insurance payout! The bigger picture is almost a sanctioned process to murder your husband when you want to trade up

It might be good advice to a man to tell them to leave any guns with a friend when the wife is feeling unsafe or willing to use that claim. Deescalation could be the outcome. You wouldn't do that if you had concerns about self protection though.

Criticize me all you want, but I actually agree with this. It may affect more men than women but it will keep PEOPLE safe, and I think that is important.
