This is often because the wife has a high conflict personality type and alienates the in laws to control her husband.

Same thing is happening to my brother. Which is unfortunate since he has a stubborn personality, so he doesn't listen when you say anything he doesn't want to hear.

Very often men in these situation are afraid to speak up against their wives because they know it will come back on them behind closed doors. And a man cannot defend himself against a woman and divorce is a lose/lose proposition. Being married with kids can easily turn into a hostage situation for a father as the options to escape a controlling abusive wife are few. Because feminism. This creates a kind of Stockholm Syndrome for many men as they defend their abuser because they cannot accept the reality of the horrible situation.

[–]supergamer422 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well that's why my dad waited until we were 18 to divorce my mother, this way we could choose. Also my brother is only engaged at the moment so it's just him being an idiot.

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Controlling not just the husband. Everything.

Also, a lot of married women are control freaks, which of course leaves the husband and his parents with a lot of well-justified resentment.

The trope of the awful mother-in-law exists for a reason. Dalrock had some great insights here and here. The dynamic makes perfect sense once it is understood:

  • guy is brought up in a typical modern family, where his mother wears the pants and his father is pussy-whipped
  • guy learns to emulate his father's passivity and obey his mother, becoming somewhat of a mama's boy
  • guy manages to get a girl to be interested in him, and adopts the same passivity he's operated on all his life
  • mother, who is used to complete control over son, realizes he's now being controlled by another woman, feels animosity towards her
  • girlfriend/wife senses that, also feels her control over guy is threatened, creates drama to try to bring him back to "her side"
  • guy tries to please everyone, attempts to placate both side, which causes even more drama and reinforces his passivity and powerlessness
  • guy becomes a father, son gets raised in a typical modern family, the cycle repeats

This sounds like tradcon bullshit to me. Everything you described has nothing to do with the male or the sort of man he is or isn't. This is just what happens with high conflict females and their petty-as-fuck rivalries. There's nothing "modern" about that, in fact it is even worse in traditional conservative Christian families and goes back as far back in history as you'd care to look. It's not the guy's fault if he doesn't want his mother to ruin his marriage or his wife to alienate him from his own family.

Oh yeah, you were being the epitome of traditional masculinity with your verbal tirade - so alpha /s. Give me a break. You'll still end up losing no everything and becoming socially isolated after your future divorce, with no one left to give a shit if you take your own life. Your tirade hasn't changed family laws that incentivize women to engage in bridge burning campaigns against each other. And you're not a bigger man for blaming yourself for their behavior instead of demanding that they own their own shit.

I'm not blaming you for wanting everyone to get along - that's exactly what I said before. But trust me, you're closer to that pussy whipped image of an emasculated man than you want to believe. If you weren't, then you would pick a side and cast the other one out. File for divorce, or ditch your mother, or both. One of these people has to be held accountable for their actions. My own point of view is that their childish behavior had nothing to do with you, one way or the other, and you were not made into a man by asking them to start being adults. You were just stuck in the middle, a wallet with a set of legs.

I only date people that believe in abortion for exactly this reason.

It's rather unfortunate that the reason for a DNA test escaped you.

making assumptions about a relationship you have no/little information about

I'm not the one throwing personal anecdotes around as if they prove something.

I don't even care. You're just another guy with a failed marriage trying to tell other men how to "handle their women".

If she's pregnant by me, or anyone else, she's getting the abortion.

I'm not talking about your current girlfriend. I'm talking about the years of your marriage that you claim were "perfect", except of course for that time when your wife decided to stop giving a fuck. You're so full of yourself that you can't even see that maybe you weren't really in charge over that entire situation?

And please, you're embarrassing yourself with your bravado and false sense of control. Did your old man not explain to you that it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind? What are you going to do, sue her for breach of promise? You have zero reproductive rights.

I'd really like it if people like you stopped trying to give other men any advice.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You've deeply misunderstood your own actions.

When two of the the people in your "pack" have crossed the line and are behaving in a way that threatens pack cohesion, a third party steps up and forcibly de-escalates the situation. Could be a spouse of one of the parties, a parent, a child, a sibling... this is a human behavior. Men and women both engage in it, often to the great benefit of their extended families.

Agreed. You described it is as a male behavior, and that's incorrect.

[–]zyk0s -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I was using modern mockingly to refer to the feminist standard of "woman makes the decisions, man follows". There aren't that many options, either you lead or you don't, and if you don't she'll step up and lead in your stead.

Sure, you can disregard the above as bullshit and prefer the explanation that the majority of women are evil bitches. I think it's a bit too simplistic.

[–]dungone 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn't say the majority of women are evil bitches. I said that when women have petty rivalries between each other, it has absolutely nothing to do with men. How do you go from "this has nothing to do with men" to "why do you hate all women?"

Where did you get the idea that all women engage in petty rivalries? It's also a leap of logic to suggest that this makes them evil. If you were to ask me what I really thought about that, I'd tell you straight off that it's the corrupt family law system which incentives bridge burning between wives and mothers. If you want people on their best behavior, you have to make it so that it is their best interest to be on their best behavior. That is all.

[–]zyk0s -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I said that when women have petty rivalries between each other, it has absolutely nothing to do with men

The petty rivalries have absolutely everything to do with men. Women hate other pretty women because they are sexual competitors. Their jealousies often have to do with status, which is almost always related to a man. And in the case of a fight between a wife and a mother in law, they are competing for the love and control of the man who is husband to one and son to the other.

it's the corrupt family law system which incentives bridge burning between wives and mothers.

There's a lot to be said about the family law system. But we aren't exclusively talking about situations of divorce or near-divorce. This discord even happens in marriages where divorce is not an option. The threat posed by the family law system definitely influences the behavior of the men, who are terrified of getting their wife angry, and that isn't helping the general status of affairs, sure. But the general mechanism is as I described above.

[–]chavelah -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Adults who need to dominate their spouses are defective human beings. In healthy marriages, neither adult "leads."

[–]zyk0s 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Why does leadership have to be dominating? Don't you have a boss? Have you ever worked in a team, where someone had to be a team leader? The leadership role is one of responsibility first and foremost, in any enterprise involving more than one person, someone will naturally lead, i.e. take responsibility for that activity going well. Women become very concerned when the men they are invested in are not taking ownership of the situation. Believe your "everyone is exactly equal" fantasy if you want, but it will do you no good in your relationships with other human beings.

[–]chavelah 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I have been both a leader and a subordinate in professional environments. One of the most important aspects of my home life is that it is a respite from the rat race. Nobody leads, nobody follows. We negotiate as equals.

[–]zyk0s -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Do you have kids?

[–]chavelah 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Four. They have learned to respect adults of both sexes - when the adults in question behave in a manner that merits respect.

[–]zyk0s -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Who does the driving, family vacation planning, other big decisions? I have a feeling you are the leader, but are very good at delegating.

They have learned to respect adults of both sexes

If they only respected you, you'd be a pretty shitty leader.

[–]chavelah 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a small, very femmey female, married to the kind of guy that terpers dream of being. Since we're both mentally healthy adults, neither one of us wants to be dominant at home. As you've noted, being dominant is a huge, exhausting responsibility. We share that load.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty much spot on. Marriage for a man is prison - just don't do it. Feminism tells women to be bossy and controlling, and ignore men's opinions. It's not going to change soon so stay away from relationships. This is why MGTOW is exploding.

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

A lot of married women are control freaks, which of course leaves the husband and his parents with a lot of well-justified resentment.

If a woman and her parents parents are jackasses, a male usually is forced to put up to it and is allowed few opportunities to object or complain.
