All the comments say "Open up about your problems" and the Mods delete anything that has to do with men having a rough time. It's just funny at this point. Most people don't even care about us.

[–]Sasha_ 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

...and when men DO open up about their problems, as any MRA could tell you, they're immediately accused of de-railing, being trolls, abusers etc. you only have to look at the way these guys were treated: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HnfhVzEBJcs&client=mv-vf-uk&safesearch=always

Or these feminist biggots: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WdbAxDdtMZs&client=mv-vf-uk&safesearch=always

Feminist are biggots twats.

The fact is that men discussing male issues in a distinctly male manner is not PC. This is what we mean when we say society is hostile to men. We have literally been pushed into the corner and told that it's our fault that we're there with so much as a whimper of opposition taken as an affront against women.

[–]Arcanome 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

The sad thing is that the thread had plenty of good responses, some pointing at the different methods of suicide, others pointing at the lack of precautions targeting males...

[–]ImXtraSalty 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

This is just the reality we face now. I feel in the next 15 to 20 years the MGTOW movement will force the public to take a harder look at men's issues.

[–]Sasha_ 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I agree. I'm not a MGTOW, I'm an MRA, but MGTOW will soon be much larger and more influential than MRAs.

All MGTOWs really need is a few really influential guys to start championing it.

I couldn't agree more. I think what will happen over the next 20 years is MRAs will get more and more visibility, and we'll even see feminists start to try and co-opt the issues we raise.

They'll do so in they're usual kack-handed and bigoted way, and thus drive more men down the MGTOW path.

'Sensible' women will react with blind anger and dismay, as they hit 45 with no children in sight, and because they get all their news from a media in thrall to female-directed advertising (they control almost all the spending on consumer goods), while housing starts to strain because students with $25k of debt can't afford a mortgage.

The immediate impact of all this is bad for men, but in the medium and long-term it'll be good for most men, and absolutely devastating for most women.

No-one can creat a structure which will exploit MGTOW - they'll just piss-off to Dubai or Singapore - or just opt-out in some other way. I've no-idea what a Bit-Coin for example is exactly, but it was clearly invented by men, and you can see where that's going...

While this may sound like hyperbolic rehetoric, one only has to see the impact that feminism has had on women - the fact that increasing numbers are childless for example - to see that social-change can massively impact human behaviour.

The weird truth is, one day feminists and the media will look-back at MRAs and wish they'd taken us seriously; because what they'll end up dealing with are MGTOWs, and they won't be able to deal with them half as easily.

dude there will never be enough men 'MGTOW'. Im not trying to be a dick here but I feel you're being a little delusional. Women will likely adapt their standards and society will adjust to new reality.

[–]die_wacht_am_rhein 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Japanese disagree.

[–]Tmomp 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The MRA movement has been around in some form for a long time, and it's made no progress whatsoever.

It may not seem like a lot to others, but it's changed my perspective a lot, which has improved my life. I presume others can say the same, so at least on the personal level it's made progress.

[–]Demonspawn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The sad truth is, I think men will have to make it into a choice between "respect our rights or lose your freedom forever," by force. Words just aren't working!

There are three solutions to feminism: Revolt, Expat, or Turtle.

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the men's rights movement is paradoxically viewed as being unmanly, and wimpy.

Well, take a look at the titles on the front page of MRA and then compare them to TRP. The difference? MRA is whining and TRP is doing something about it instead. Don't take my word for it. Look for yourself.

"Okay, let's have a conference to do exactlHAAAAANNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK oh fuck they pulled the fire alarm again didn't they"

Oh wow, they're chanting and throwing things again.

Most people don't even care about us.

They do when they need a jar opened or lives risked mining coal or fighting a war.

[–]BagelBenny 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I can understand why they chose to lock the thread. While it's an important conversation the subreddit ELI5 (Explain it like I'm 5) doesn't really seem like it's the best place for a discussion that we are selves are trying to figure out. It's not something you can explain simply it's something that has multiple factors. ELI5 is a sub for concise and simplistic answers to complex questions. I don't believe suicide is a topic that can be simplified.

[–]Anonymous84747328223 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is actually a valid point. Not the reason it got locked down after so many good comments and a brief but popular discussion, but you're right that it's not really ELI5 material.

Half the ELI5 posts that make the front page aren't really sincere though. The sub is a visible way to bring a contentious issue to the forefront and a lot of posters use it that way. ELI5 why can't we have nice things? isn't, in general, and actual call for a simplified explanation.

[–]Arcanome 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Although valid, not common practice of the subreddit. To put that in comparison there were plenty of ISIS/Daesh topics simplified in last weeks.

[–]eletheros 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What is the ELI5 policy in regards to locking a post? Why is it locked after only 6 hours?

[–]Anonymous84747328223 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Somebody must have said a bad thing, ruffled some feathers, and when it's on the front page Reddit has whitewashing to do. This is the newer mod-ier Reddit remember. Keep it PC. Keep it console if you can, for the kids.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because it looked like it was helping men, and the feminists that run Reddit can't have that.

[–]fumCarter 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

because women can't commit male suicide

[–]garglemesh42 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Right. Women killing men is called something else. I'd say that it is called "murder", but after reading /r/pussypass you have to wonder if judges really think it is the same thing.

[–]DougDante 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't question the narrative!

[–]Anonymous84747328223 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Haha, the whole top comment thread is a zombie with over a hundred deleted comments. I posted an ELI5 asking what happened, but this is better.

I didn't see much that hasn't already been said. But it sure makes me feel valued that I can't even say it because somebody un-safed the space or whatever.

Kill them all I guess. We all die sometime. (The offensive threads, guys; chill)
