Pre-nup survives wife's challenge, female journalist reports it as "man stiffs wife out of alimony and wins right to throw her out" --> Are you telling us that a contract isn't a contract when a woman signs it?

Alimony is a relic from the dark days of the patriarchy. It should be ended completely ... said no Feminist ever.

I am glad this is getting addressed. I have been in a relationship for quite awhile now and my family keeps asking, where's the ring, wheres the ring?

My cock ring sits right next to the lube, thanks for asking

Have you actually responded with that yet? I'm getting to the point where I'm about to lose my filter with respect to family.

With my dad and step mom. Marriage is just a status that men pay a high bill for. After talking to plenty of women, it is safe to say that Women don't want marriage, they just want a wedding

They also want the perks that come along with a divorce.

God damn you hit the nail on the head.

I blame Disney where every female lead is some sort of Princess, and every happy ending includes a Wedding. These movies indoctrinate women at a very young age.

[–]not_AtWorkRightNow 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And the women who grew up with this shit push it on their daughters like it's a religion.

I know a woman who was literally outraged that her ex-husband told their 7 year old daughter that the princesses at Disneyland weren't actually real, and of course every other woman at the table was equally shocked and horrified. I guess we'd better also make sure the kids don't find out singing lions aren't real either.

Disney is notorious for this shit. They show the magical wedding but not the problems that arise later and the couple working through them

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Predates Disney by a hundred years.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And many middle class women want legitimate children as well. Once the kids come your life is over. You're a slave now. It's a shame because I love being a father, but once she has kids your wife will never compromise or give a shit about your well being ever again, because she doesn't have to.

After talking to plenty of men, it is safe to say that Men don't want a family, they just want sex.

Oh, wait, that's an incredibly bigoted and inaccurate generalization. What was I thinking?

[–]whatsazipper 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Don't get married.

Not in the US, at least. There's no reason. No hard benefits, very tangible costs.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Hey, the US might be bad but did you know in Australia, unlike the UK, defacto marriage has all the rights (for the woman that is) with no cohabitation requirements, just being able to prove a ongoing relationship. You can literally be married to your mistress even if you only spend time together in a hotel once a month!

Thankfully prostitution is legal, cheap, and widespread.

[–]whatsazipper 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Is that really the case? How do they prove there's an ongoing relationship? What does it entail? What can happen to the man if she's looking to dish out pain?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well I would assume evidence of being together (photos), phone records, accommodation records, acquaintances that can vouch for them etc.

I think the real problem is the benefits of marriage are bestowed on someone you are simply in a relationship with and may not even live with.

http://www.ag.gov.au/FamiliesAndMarriage/Families/Documents/Defactopropertyregimefrequentlyaskedquestions.pdf

In Australia you are married if one of the following is true:

  • the period (or the total of the periods) of the de facto relationship is at least 2 years
  • there is a child of the de facto relationship
  • one of the partners made substantial financial or non-financial contributions to their property or as a homemaker or parent and serious injustice to that partner would result if the order was not made, or
  • the de facto relationship has been registered in a State or Territory with laws for the registration of relationships.

Note the 3rd point - it basically gives the judge unlimited scope to declare a couple "married" if it would be too hard on the women if he didn't, regardless of the merits of the relationship. There is no time period attached, if you let your girlfriend stay at your home for 1 month and then kicked her out cuz she was a crazy bitch, she could sue you for a "divorce" if she then claimed "hardship".

[–]whatsazipper 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's absolutely crazy!

[–]Penuno 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah he pretty much nailed it.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

My friend got married after living together for 2 years. His parents even bought them a house to live in before marriage.

They didn't have sex on her wedding night because she was too tired. They didn't have sex on their honeymoon (cruise) because she said the walls of the cabin were too thin. After 6 months they had an annullment.

They had a very elaborate wedding. Marriage is fucking bullshit. Women want a wedding, not a marriage.

My friend is lucky because she had $150,000 grad school debt. He did not have to share that debt after the annulment. Bullet dodged.

[–]not_AtWorkRightNow 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You said women want a wedding, not a marriage, but that's. It always true. Any women with debt will always want a marriage. Any single mother will also probably want a marriage.

Chris Rock said it in the same standup from the article, what women want is "everything," and in today's culture any man who won't bend over backwards to deliver it isn't a "real man."

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just don't do it man!
