Something I've been coming across a lot lately is women, mostly ones I know, saying things that are rather... anti-men. Not necessarily that they are against men, but stuff that basically paints women as victims while men live some life of luxury. "Hardcore feminists" like I used in the title probably isn't the most accurate term, but it's the best I could come up with. I don't come across this type of thing very often in real life, thankfully, but I do see a lot of people I know on the internet posting on places like Facebook about things that really just get under my skin. And it seems to be happening more and more.

Most of it isn't big political issues or anything (although it does happen), but mostly small things that women experience that apparently men get a free pass for. I'm currently in a discussion on Facebook with a girl who I've known for 10 years and used to be a good friend of mine who posted a picture of some guys sagging their pants and said how if a girl did something like show her bra strap she would be sent home home school and probably called a slut and it's such a double standard. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about, just irrational annoying... shit. I see stuff like this usually I'll just ignore it, but sometimes, like today, I just can't help but comment. I started by simply saying that guys who sag their pants get told to pull them up all the time, and they'd get in trouble for it at school too, so it isn't really a double standard. She responded by saying a boy wouldn't get sent home by wearing something too revealing and it's much more lenient for them. I told her they certainly would, and overall women's dress codes generally allow much more revealing clothing than men's do, and it's much more acceptable for women to wear revealing clothes than it is for men, so I don't see how that can even be up for debate. She hasn't responded to that yet.

I got into another argument with a girl a while back when she shared an article that was a long list of tweets by women directed toward men saying things like "Do you [experience something]?" The whole point was how women experience sexism. Things from getting catcalled, to feeling uncomfortable walking alone at night, to getting groped by strangers. I already knew this girl was very strongly feminist, but this was something that really set me off. I commented on it saying that the women saying these things are the ones being sexist, because they're directing these tweets to all men and blaming all men for these problems, and putting down and shaming the men who actually experience these things as well. I go on to say that at least half of these things listed I HAVE experienced myself, as a man. Yes, as a matter of fact, I HAVE been groped by a female stranger in pubic, so now what? She responded by saying that women are almost always the ones who are the victims of abuse, and men don't face abuse like women do. At that point I was just too shocked and pissed to even argue with her, I knew there was no point. So I unfriended her and that was that.

I've also seen women commenting on how they have much tougher lives and face more difficult problems than men do, which is just fucking ridiculous. I can't believe I'm seeing this stuff, and it's happening more and more frequently. I feel like I'm being suffocated by it, seeing it every day if I get on Facebook or other sites.

If you want to argue against dress codes for women, that's fine! If you want to raise awareness for sexual assault and abuse, that's fine! The big issue I have this all of this is that whenever I see a woman bring up issues faced by women, they have to bring DOWN men to do it. And THAT is what bothers me. You can argue that it should be fine to show your bra strap without saying "look at what men get to wear with no consequences, what a double standard!". I shouldn't be made to feel guilty because some woman got catcalled once somewhere by some man, just because I'm a man too. I see it on a larger scale too, like youtube videos with women putting down men. They think they're empowering women, but they don't realize they're putting down and insulting men to do it. It's just... everywhere. I'm really tired of this, and that is why I'm writing this. How do I handle it? Do I just ignore it? I can't block everyone I see saying something about it, and I can't always avoid it everywhere i go. So what is appropriate? I'm really a very non-confrontational person, so even making those Facebook comments is unusual for me, and I really don't enjoy doing it, but it rubs me the wrong way so much that I feel like I HAVE to say something. But, even then there's really no point because I know I'm not changing anyone's views. So... what do you think? This probably isn't as big of a deal as I'm making it, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by it at the moment and needed to vent my feelings, so sorry for the long rant.
