am I the only one in a moment like this that would just pick my boy up and deal with juggling stuff so we can both stay dry.

[–]Auroros 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

He looks a little too old to want to be picked up and carried like a baby.

[–]belil569 33 points34 points35 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I take it you dont have kids. Even most young children at some point dont mind.

[–]SigmundFloyd76 84 points85 points86 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can confirm.

Source: Single dad. I still like being picked up.

[–]belil569 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dont we all.

[–]Auroros 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You're right, I don't. I was just making assumption seeing the situation.

[–]percocet_20 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

My girlfriend's daughter is seven and she still tries to get me to pick her up but she's getting bigger now so I told her she's got 10 "carry's" left for the rest of her life and that she has to use them wisely

[–]Snowfire870 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Oh boy you know she will save one for when its gonna be really rough

[–]medfunguy 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

When /u/Percocet_20 is 90 and on his deathbed she comes up to him. Goes to his ear.

"I want to say something before I lose the opportunity to say it again."

"What is it my dear?"

"You..."

"Yes..?"

"You... still..."

"I still what, honey? I'm running out of time.."

"You still owe me a carry"

[–]percocet_20 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I told her that I'd honor it no matter how old she gets

[–]GoogleNoAgenda 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a dad of a little girl, this made me cry.

[–]percocet_20 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Idk I've already had to reminder that she had 8 left, she might squander them before she's even a preteen

[–]slant1988 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dude that's some good incentive to stay in shape!

[–]ConsAtty 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just put him on your shoulders and have him in charge of holding the umbrella -- kids love both of those things.

[–]Auroros 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Damn, that's genius. However, it's not as "beautiful" for the picture.

[–]ConsAtty 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, it's like if, in the movie Titanic, Rose (Kate Winslet) had stayed in the lifeboat as Jack urged her to, so Jack (DiCaprio) could have survived on the debris -- they would have both survived, gotten married, gotten divorced, etc. It's just not a romantic picture anymore.

[+]RamenSlayer013 -7 points-6 points-5 points 10 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I'd rather get wet then make my boy feel like a baby. Its just not manly to suckle them so much.

Edit: I am not a woman nor do I have a son. This comment is a hypothetical about the image posted by op in response to Auroro's comment about the boy being to old to be carried which is a form of suckling. Suckle not only means feeding from breast but it can also be used as a figure of speech meaning to baby or treat someone is if they were much younger then what they really are.

[–]HotZone_ 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

drunken delete.

[–]RamenSlayer013 -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Lol you a crazy person aren't ya?

[–]HotZone_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'll be honest: you seem to have unhealthy sexual urges about your baby boy. That is all.

[–]HotZone_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd rather get wet then make my boy feel like a baby. Its just not manly to suckle them so much.

Yikes.

[–]RamenSlayer013 -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wtf are you talking about. It was a hypothetical. I don't have a son nor am I a woman or a feminist you despicable bigot.

[–]slayerx1779 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While I won't argue that suckle can mean what you claim it does, because I don't know if suckle has that definition or not, I would like to point out for future reference that coddle is a much more widely recognized word which has that meaning.

[–]RamenSlayer013 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I tried looking for the definition so I can paste it here, but couldn't find it. I would've used coddle but it was stuck at the tip of ny tongue.

Great photo. Classic "Titanic Driftwood" Scenario though, pretty sure the umbrella is big enough for both of them.

Don't lie, we both know the rain here is hardly what it's hyped to be.

[–]Arby01 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This summer, maybe the last couple as well. Most of the last 20 years, the rain has absolutely been what it's hyped to be.

[+]blasphemyisgood -19 points-18 points-17 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Just don't have children. problem solved.

[–]john2kxx 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

When you have kids of your own, you'll start seeing things like this as less of a problem than a privilege.

[+]Eryemil 10 years ago* [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

You make it sound like some kind of mind virus that rearranges your priorities in a way that your life gets objectively worse (people with kids don't have better quality of life as far as I'm aware) and makes you be happy about the fact.

If you want people to consider your point of view, maybe try thinking about theirs instead of being a patronising cuntflap?

[–]SarahC 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You make it sound like some kind of mind virus that rearranges your priorities in a way that your life gets objectively worse

It is......

That's the only way any of this worked for as long as it did.

Imagine if every parent wasn't effected in this way? People would be getting shouted at all the time "Don't have kids! You end up spending your entire time protecting them from danger, keeping them fed, teaching them, stopping them playing up."

It's hard wired that people will love kids so much that they will even enjoy this behaviour. It's rewarding.

But measurably, by finances, by down time, by relationship stress with spouse, and so on.... - YES - they are worse off.

What we can learn about human nature is - the feeling overrides the observable situation when making choices.

This is necessary to keep the human population going!

At the same time - it causes so much grief in the world, such as mobs, and riots - things were people stop acting rationally and act emotionally, fed by direct emotional input.

[–]thekarateguy 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see someone here has read "The Selfish Gene" :)

[–]howgoyoufar 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Calm down, there is no need to be upset.

[+]Eryemil -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I am neither upset nor agitated.

[–]sonofdogballs 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

well maybe you should try not to call strangers on the internet a cuntflap just because they have an opinion that conflicts with yours.

[–]Eryemil -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reply that he gave the original poster deserved nothing less. It has nothing to do with opinions but his being a patronising twat to someone doing nothing but expressing themselves.
