This is often used as a place to vent, since venting about such topics is not socially acceptable almost anywhere else.

I think your post inadvertently illustrates why it is so hard to come up with effective strategies; the MRM doesn't have access to the only strategy feminism has needed to succeed--compassion for women.

Feminists gain support for their demands precisely by relating stories of individual women's suffering, or claims of women as a group being oppressed. When people hear of women suffering they feel compassion for them, which triggers a desire to protect, help or save them.

Unfortunately, people don't have the same reaction to tales of male suffering.

We're at a point where a comedian telling a fictional rape joke about a woman being raped causes great outrage and calls for the comedian's head. If men were to publicly laugh about the actual real-life rape of a woman, and seem to be taking enjoyment from it, they would become social pariahs and be considered utterly warped and reprehensible people.

You can have an entire studio audience of women laughing in glee over the real-life story of a man having his penis cut off and thrown into the garbage disposal in a way that would be utterly unimaginable with the genders reversed.

I think for most people it's their emotional reaction that determines their attitude and actions.

In the case of women, Compassion --> help the women. Outrage --> Stop the bad thing happening to women.

In the case of men, complete lack of compassion/outrage --> no urge to help or stop the bad thing happening --> no action. It doesn't feel serious or a real problem, so the person spontaneously rationalizes a way to justify taking that stance.

The problem is these emotions spontaneously arise, or they don't.

People generally are very protective of the stances they take based on emotion, and will fight to rationalize them away, rather than face up to the fact that they are acting on emotion rather than reason.

But even if you do manage to get through to someone on the rational level and get them to see that they have double standards based on emotion, it's much harder to get them to change how they spontaneously feel about issues, to get them to actually feel compassion for men.

It's activism in terms of making sure people are aware of the scope of the problem, but i've just started a policy discussion thread.

Instead of, you know. Starting a thread complaining about the lack of a policy thread. I'm sure we'll see you there...

Your whining is much worse. If you don't like the content here, you do not need to read it, let alone whine about it, but what I find most interesting is that you needed to create an entirely new troll account just for this thread... I suggest you seek psychiatric assistance immediately.

Half the battle of fighting an injustice is being able to prove it exists. Feminists are constantly looking to sweep men's issues under the rug. The more examples we aggregate of people hating men the more proof we have for the fact that men are mistreated. We often have calls to action here. I myself called almost every senator on the senate health comittee telling them why I oppose S.590. I also sent emails during the peak of the Saving Chase campaign. We are a smaller movement than feminism and (unlike them) we are gaining traction. The other half of the battle is raising awareness which we are doing. Progress takes time we can't just go riot in the streets. We have strategies and they're working we just need to congregate in the real world.

Additionally this is one of few places where men have a voice. You seem to want to control what we say and I can't approve to that though I will say that most of said posts belong in /r/MensRants (I personally would appreciate an /r/ExamplesOfMisandy that contains examples of serous misandry e.g. Hilary Clintons "women are the primary victims of war" nonsense).

We will continue doing what we can. If you feel not enough is being accomplished why don't you do something about it? I felt the same way and am now getting a Mens Rights group started on campus. If you don't think we're implementing change then by all means lead the charge.

You're not cherry picking. Most of the posts and subsequent comments here involve whining or complaining, and not a lot brainstorming solutions.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. In a lot of cases people just need to vent, be heard, and be sympathized with.

But yeah, there's no question that a lot more could be done in terms of trying to promote positive change.
