Link seen on Facebook. I think its supposed to be humor, but I can't imagine who would find it funny. I also can't imagine reversing the sexes.

And when you bash single moms for having kids they couldn't support and shouldn't have had, people try defending them.

Single moms don't abandon their kids though.

This would be more equivalent to bashing a woman who gives her kid up for adoption after realizing she can't handle the responsibility imo.

And how many dads abandon their children, rather than being forced to do so by the mother and government?

[+]xynomaster -9 points-8 points-7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Quite a lot I'd imagine.

If you think this is going to turn into a feelz vs realz argument, it won't. You see, I imagine a lot of single moms are popping out kids for the government benefits. I feel it's true, deep down in my colon. Wait, I think that's just a fart.

Did I say they weren't?

1/4 men don't pay child support, 1/3 women don't. Women are more often dead beats than men when they lose custody. So more women effectively financially abandoned their children.

[–]chavelah 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

True, but given the bias men face in family court when they seek primary custody, you're basically comparing a population of normal guys to a population of mentally ill and/or drug-addicted women. I have always been shocked that as MANY as 2/3 of noncystodial mothers pay support, considering how fucked up they usually have to be to become noncustodial in the first place.

[–]DLK601 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree there, it usually takes a seriously tucked up mother or a really motivated father that has the full backing of the children, and even thing I would still say the chances are slim (DISCLAIMER, no evidence on last part, just a guess form research)

What? Moms abandon kids all the time.

[–]Dunkcity239 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Single dad here. Mom abandoned the kids. Haven't seen a penny in child support

It's such bald-faced hatred against men. It's obvious that you can't even mention anything about men without this kind of knee-jerk hostility.

[–]Vanriel 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah. Someone where I work put a sign similar to this up. I complained to management about pointing out the sexist attitudes towards men, and they took it down.

However the fact that it got put up in the first place, and the fact that I had to POINT out that it was sexist still pisses me off. Of course I got told by other staff that I was "overreacting" and that it was "just a joke". I then pointed out that it wouldn't be a joke if it was aimed at women, and they looked like I had just said something horrific.

I HATE double standards.

You're fighting the good fight. Don't ever feel shame for feeling righteous fury whenever you come upon evidence of discrimination. Even if consistency is often undervalued in society, it is something that we deeply respect here.

I was pissed off at seeing this on Father's Day, but I'm glad you posted it OP. Because you never here about the lousy mothers out there, that's "misogyny". My parents divorced when I was young but my dad was always there for me and my sister. He and I remain very close to this day. I'm lucky to have him as a dad. Of course the same people who created this ecard are never going to make one highlighting the mothers out there who poison their children against their fathers.

[–]Vanriel 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, My Dad and I had a rough relationship when i was a kid, nothing bad, just not close. But now that I am an adult i can look back and see all the stuff he did for me, and all the things he taught me. And the fact that people automatically seem to assume these days that the Dad=deadbeat pisses me off something chronic. Sure there are gonna be Dads who are not good role models or good fathers, but the same could be said for mothers.
