Trigger warnings are a base level propaganda tool. Basically they tell you to get in line with the new social norms, and now believe previously reasonable topics of discussion topic are in fact so horrendous you could be scarred by even considering them. History is littered with this tactic in other forms.

It's censorship of the most manipulative kind I can think of - it is relying on people's goodwill and desire to make you comfortable, using that to intimidate people and control what they can or can't do. Few things about these feminist wingnuts make me angrying than their trigger warnings. I would demand my money back on the spot if I had to read my Greek literature class with trigger warnings stamped on every scene (thank Christ I never took any Greek literature classes).

Which sadly, only serves to kill that goodwill in others at a certain point. These sorts of things no longer work on me. I know it makes me a bit of a bastard, but sometimes I really enjoy making people uncomfortable.

I see nothing to feel bad about - they are manipulating people. They have no goodwill towards you. Trigger warnings are horseshit, despicable stuff.

Star of David; Pink Triangle; Scarlet Letter; declaring a text to be heretical, burnable, pornographic, corrupting and HERE.

Essentially trigger warnings can be used to filter what is and isn't right. An extreme example would be banning/burning books based on the subjective opinion of a select few who deem it wrong, but not as a whole(Germany comes to mind)

Trigger warnings are a manipulative invention for bullying and intimidating other people. These students should be thrown out of their classes. I swear to God I'm so happy I'm not one of these teachers, because I would simply throw them out of my class, and if I got in trouble and lost my job, I would find another profession. There is such a thing as preserving your dignity. These bullshitting feminists are no different from the religious police in Saudi Arabia, stamping their insecure anal fixations all over everything that disagrees with them.

How long are they going to get away with it for?

[–]Ultramegasaurus 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The entire concept of trigger warnings contradicts any form of emancipation. Trigger warnings are like the epitome of women being scared children. But that's nothing new. Feminism is a parody of itself nowadays. Instead of teaching women indepedency and resilience, it teaches agressive vulnerability and entitlement.

Would you please provide an archive link? I don't want to give them muh clicks.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How do I do that?

[–]tehDemonseye 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

With this I guess https://archive.org/web/

Damn, forget it. I can't remember what we usually use to archive stuff. I'm tired but I can't sleep, thanks red bull and 9hours of road.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I found the archive URL now but don't think I can edit it. I'll remember for next time. Can't believe I used to read HP - these people are not even living on the same planet as me.

Here goes, I remembered. It was archive.is

I mean, i get where her head is at, but I'm worried this new breed of ptsd would get trigger warnings, while people who aren't college girls have very different triggers, that probably won't get trigger warnings

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I totally get where her head is at. She wants to brand anything she doesn't like as unacceptable. They do it in Saudi Arabia big time - they have huge departments of anally obsessed religious experts scratching out women's faces, arms, feet, men's arms and legs, all kinds of things, from imported magazines and products. It's for the exact same reasons - those men find those things unacceptable, the society deems that it triggers inappropriate feelings in people, so it must be removed.

It is horseshit. They put these trigger warnings forward as protection from trauma, but they are using it as a political tool. You only need to read the latest trigger warning demands in Colombia, where students are asking to censor Greek literature. The things they want to censor are nothing to do with trauma - they are basically imbecils who are conflating Greek literature with the "Greek" culture of frats, and in a ridiculous sweep, asking for it to be banned because it triggers racism, or sexism, or what the fuck.

As far as I'm concerned, if you're suffering PTSD, check yourself out of university and come back when you're healthy. The world is not a journal for your mental illness.

[Serious question] Where can I get a comprehensive list of 'triggers'?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No idea. I'm not going to look for one because I think it would melt my head.

[–]Targren 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[Less-than-serious answer] Check the "John The Ripper" wordlist file.

It isn't a psychiatric thing, they know exactly what they're doing. They want to bully and coerce people into their own agendas and world-views. You're dealing with a bunch of manipulative and ambitious puritans here, not some innocent and idiotic snowflakes.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They're not censorship. They're just fucking stupid. They're basically a way for people to say "I can't control my emotions, like, you know, an adult, so I demand everyone else do it for me"
