sounds like you live in a sexist and hostile environment. professionalism at a low there?

avoid the offending co workers or politely tell them to stop or that something offends you. record that!!

if the hostile environment continues, document and report to your direct manager any harassment or offensive gestures or comments. then follow up your report to HR. be sure to follow your companies harassment guidelines.

document everything and record if you feel you need too. if the hammer comes down on you from a manager or the offending parties for daring to protect your workplace rights... take all your documents, recording right to a lawyer! but you better have all your ducks in a row and dont bring bullshit to a lawyer make sure its legit.

I've worked in some female dominated places and been treated like shit, too. It sucks.

What field do you work in ? Can you say, even if it's in a general sense. Sounds horrible. You have to measure what's more important paycut/struggling to make ends meet or your sanity. It will eventually come down to your sanity if you don't change your situation, I'm afraid. I'd take the paycut, and work on getting something better. Unless you can bring solid proof to their bosses of the problems and request a transfer, can you do something like that ?

I know what your going through to a lesser extent. I work with a couple of vipers, but in a larger group. They're horrible bored with their lives wastes of human beings. But they're in no position to affect me.

Leave, walk away. This is as close to standing your ground as you can get. Call your boss up tomorrow and say that the work place has just become too hostile for you to return then hang up. Find another job. Jobs working with children tend to not pay very well so you should have no problems finding another job that pays more and doesn't subject you to a hostile workplace.

Leave now before they decide to stick it to 'the man' ie someone with a penis, you. Because they won't fire you with a pink slip and a letter of recommendation. They will fire you with criminal charges of misconduct with the children. Get out YESTERDAY.

Life is too short to work in a job that causes unnecessary stress.

It's time to make an escape plan. Try and see if you can find a new job in your field as quickly as possible. If you can do this, then go to work avoid any and all personal conversations. Just do your work and go home.

If you can't make a quick escape and you don't want to deal with the BS, just resign and find multiple PT jobs until you land on your feet.

I've worked in an environment of nearly all women before. never again. but while it was total hell, I'm not sure it was due to anything sexist. I think it had more to do with their PMS cycles synchronizing such that at any given time, there was always at least one woman in the department screaming and bitching like a total mad-woman.

honestly, just try to find another job. and if there's no work in your area, then move. trying to stick around and fix a work culture will often have more deleterious effects to your health than just moving and finding a new job.

You need to address it but do not make a big deal about it. Set up a meeting with a boss or someone who's job it is to listen. Explain to them how you are feeling in the environment but do not get hostile or offensive about what you are feeling. You need to be professional about this, if you are not things can go very very bad. If you handle it professionally and then feel like your job is threatened then you will have a legal case. They cant fire you for being in an uncomfortable work environment but they can fire you if you make a big stink. Keep it low profile.
