I was in a Women's Studies class(twice actually I failed the first) in two different campuses. In the first class I found myself fighting the teacher a lot because according to her, in order for someone to be sexist/racist they must be privileged in such scenario, rather you can only be a "bigot". This was in fact the "Progressive Sociological" definition of sexist/racist. It was based on the idea that the establishment always ran things in their favor even when it didn't want it but still benefited from it. Like her example at how women were allowed in college but weren't graduating from STEM. According to her, the establishment wanted to look tolerant but didn't really let women into STEM. Of course I called her out on that. I failed the class badly. I ended up retaking the class at another college campus(a much more Liberal campus) and I found the professor and students much more objective. Both schools are in the city, just two different parts. Anyways the second class wasn't as fair but they actually did admit to the double standards and how it too affects men. On top of that professor went over the history of suffrage, and she was quick to point out that despite changes in law, that the general thinking then was that only those who went to war could vote, thus women who were unfit for war and slaves who weren't loyal to the country. She even made sure to point out that the suffragist movement could have helped slave and Blacks receive equal treatment but instead bashed them with the same anger that white men did. So in essence that big monumental step was nothing more than them feverishly scapegoating another minority for their personal gain. Glad I went to that other class. Basically it taught how this movement wasn't in such great light as we are forced to believe. In fact the same women who accuse Politically Correct school textbooks for not enough female influence will make it a top priority to redact those facts out of them. Basically they want their movement to be seen in a very positive light.

Ask her to explain how this "oppression" works. I find when you actually engage these ideologies, the people spewing them usually have nothing coherent to say. It's all emotional and terminology based. They usually lose their cool and the argument is yours! You won't convince her, but to anyone listening, it becomes clear what's what.

This is akin to the question of whether African-Americans can be racist. For a time academics, I them Jewish, argued they couldn't. Then along came Louis Farakan and the fiery antisemitic rhetoric of black nationalism. They changed their minds quickly.
