Under counting male victims is better than lying to say they aren't there at all. Of course there's no Men's Resource Center to point that out.
Much less criminal and sexist than it used to be, yay!

This unironically - 1/17 might not be the right statistic, but it's a meaningfully large one. Effectively takes away any charges of "but abuse against males is so rare that only women really need help".
Even more important, this seems to be endorsed by the University and the Women's Resource Centre. These are the institutions that matter the most and the institutions that are the hardest to change.

Faking statistics on both side isn't progress.

neither is splitting the stats. It creates a one-sided appearance, "no one should ..." followed by the suggesting that some groups have it better than others.
If those numbers were right, they should have been roll into a single number and said something like: "no one should experience sexual violence, but sadly, 1 in 8 will." Anything less is promoting an us against them mentality.

They are derived anyways. 1 in 5 and 1 in 17 combined could be nearly any number you wanted. The statistics were gathered from humans so you could weigh it as 50/50 gender ratio and get 1/11. But secondary education is 60% female so maybe your 1/8 is closer. It is Georgia Tech though, so it would be lower than any of those based on the provided data. You can essentially pick any number you want. It isn't necessarily the fact that they are derived that may cause them to be misleading.

There's no context in the post itself so who knows how accurate it is. The fact that men are even counted in this is HUGE though. We are on the right track at least, just have to keep on going!

Propaganda = progress? You must be joking. The 1 in 17 stat is equally as fraudulent as the 1 in 5 stat. Perhaps a few more laws to keep everyone safe? In an average year 25,000 new safety/freedom laws are enacted. When stormtroopers are deployed in every school, store, workplace and home, will you finally feel safe?

Wouldn't it be nice if a source was provided when statistics are used?
1 in 12 people will disagree with my comment.

Pushing the 1 in 5 lie isn't what i would call progress.
