I was always under the impression that this was how doing undercover work was done. If you don't find yourself a member of the organization and form a relationship with them, it makes it easier to find out you're not who you say you are.

And as the article says, it's not like they used the fact that they were cops to force these women to have sex. It may have been under false pretenses, but it wasn't fucking rape. >_>

I think this is wrong. If you are undercover you don't fuck like tht. That's standard business. If you do it reeks of abuse.

Common sense would be prohibiting cops from violating the same laws everyone else has to abide by.

If going undercover means you have to violate the law on a regular basis .. guess what... you don't go undercover.

Just like you don't scoop up everyone's phone communications just because you can.

The law is the law, and should apply to everyone, including cops.

It seems to me that there was a similar level of deceit in these cases as there is in paternity fraud, and that the degree of emotional harm done is also likely to be similar. There is no way that anyone would ever expect a partner to be an undercover policeman, and what was done to these women, regardless of the legality of it, was abusive. I think that the officers directly involved sacrificed their integrity, and that the institution employing them demonstrated corruption in allowing it to happen. If it takes a substantial compensation payment to warn off the police from doing this again, then so be it.
