Hello again everyone! Back in May 2021 I reached out to you all for guidance and the advice you all provided was good but I am getting closer to the finish line and it seems I’ll end up back in square one. I am fighting my ex for custody over our kids and it doesn’t matter what it seems as if they will be with her even though I know they are not safe there. I left because she was abusive towards me. Now that I’ve been seeing my kids through a temporary order I have noticed my 3 year old son, who looks exactly like me, is coming to me with bruises and injuries that are not consistent with just him being an active child. I reported this to Child Protective Services and though the case is ongoing she recently sent him home to me with a burn on the top of his hand. He said she burnt him. Everyone here advised me to get an attorney, I did the research and retained the services of one. I have spent more than $7,000 since July to present and trial has not started. The good thing about getting the attorney was that my ex settled to buy me out of the house for 50k but since I won’t see that until a refinance she plans on doing in August of next year I’m having issues keeping my attorney. I didn’t mind settling for 25% of the home equity, my biggest concern is my kids. I wanted to ask how I can go about creating a gofundme and if I can even share that here. My attorney is asking me for 3500 more for my retainer and with the child support I am currently paying, I cannot afford to keep my legal services. If I don’t pay how would it go for me to represent myself in court against her attorney? Has anyone been through something like this?
